The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 25
Hello, everybody, and welcome back to yet another week of The Bobby Valentine Sport Show. I’m your host Frank Ramppen, and the Major League Baseball season, the 2023 MLB season, has finally come and gone. The World Series is over, the Texas Rangers have won their first-ever World Series title in the history of the franchise. They were one of six teams going into this season without a World Series, breaking that curse. Among those six teams, they were the ones who had been without a World Series ring for the longest. The Rangers became a franchise in 1961 as the Washington Senators and eventually moved to Texas in 1971. Since 1961, they were the longest-standing franchise without a World Series ring. Congratulations to them for securing their first World Series title.
They achieved a remarkable feat by going 11-0 on the road in the postseason, setting a new Major League record. Additionally, they had a plus 42 run differential in those road games, further solidifying their record. In the postseason, they beat the Rays in the Wild Card round, the Orioles in the divisional round, the Astros in the championship round, and finally, the Diamondbacks in the World Series. All of their opponents’ names started with the letters R, O, A, and D, contributing to a unique and somewhat technical stat.
Looking back two years ago in 2021, the Texas Rangers faced a challenging season, losing 102 games. However, in a remarkable turnaround, they became the third team ever to win a World Series after coming off a 100-loss season. They joined the exclusive company of the 1969 amazing Mets and the 1914 Braves. It’s an incredible achievement to go from 102 losses to winning the World Series in just two short years.
Now, let’s dive into the details of the World Series, breaking down the series and reliving some key moments. As part of the weekly recap, one of the favorite segments is the Outfield play of the World Series. This segment, which had been ongoing throughout the year, showcased the standout plays in the outfield. One such notable play was in Game One of the World Series, where Doas Garcia made a leaping catch against the wall in the top of the ninth inning, securing the final out and providing momentum to the Rangers heading into the bottom of the ninth.
The host also discussed the play of the World Series, highlighting Cory Seager’s outstanding contribution in Game Three. Facing a crucial moment with Aroldis Chapman on the mound, Seager made a sprawling play up the middle, executing a backhanded flip to Marcus Simeon at second base, initiating a crucial double play. This play from Seager was seen as a pivotal moment, contributing significantly to the Rangers’ momentum and eventual clinching of the World Series.
In summary, the Texas Rangers’ journey from a challenging 2021 season to winning their first-ever World Series in 2023 is a testament to their resilience and determination. The unique records and standout plays further add to the historical significance of their achievement.
