Most players learn to swing. We teach them to hit by training the mind behind the swing.
Great in the cage, stuck in games? The problem usually isn’t mechanics—it’s decision-making. The 5 W’s Framework gives hitters a simple mental checklist so they step in the box with a plan, not a guess.
Who am I? Who is he?
• Your hitter learns what type of hitter they are and what they do best.
• They also learn to quickly read the pitcher (arm angle, righty/lefty, velocity) before every pitch.
What pitch is this?
⚾ In a fraction of a second, hitters must recognize pitch type and path.
⚾ We train their eyes and brain to read the ball early so they can predict where it will cross the plate.
When should I start?
⚾ A full swing takes longer than the ball takes to travel, so hitters must start on time, not late.
⚾ We teach them when to load and go so they can be on time more often in games.
Where can I do damage?
⚾ Every hitter has “hot zones” where they hit the ball hardest.
⚾ We help them know their zones and learn to lay off pitches that are less hittable.
Why am I swinging or taking?
⚾ By the time they swing, they should already know: this is my pitch, in my zone, at my time.
⚾ The goal is fewer hopeful swings and more confident, intentional swings.
What BVSA actually does
At BVSA, the 5 W’s are built into every lesson so your athlete can:
⚾ Learn a repeatable, efficient swing.
⚾ Build a clear plan for each at-bat.
⚾ Practice the same decisions they’ll face in real games.
Simple roadmap:
1. Learn the swing (mechanics).
2. Learn the hitter (approach and identity).
3. Connect the two with live, game-like reps.
4. Repeat until the decisions become automatic.
When players understand the 5 W’s, they stop guessing and start competing with confidence. A great swing gives them a chance; a great approach helps them win at-bats.
The Mystery of Hitting: 5 W’s Framework is designed for dedicated hitters ages 13 and up who have foundational swing mechanics but struggle with game consistency. This is also a great tool for coaches whose athletes perform well in practice but underperform in games.
We assess both your swing mechanics and decision-making abilities. Using video analysis and in person coaching, we identify gaps in your approach. Then we train the 5 W’s (WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY) through live AB work, pitch recognition drills, and situational training to make you a complete, game-ready hitter.
No! While the framework is introduced after basic swing mechanics are established, it works for hitters at any level. Young players learn the foundation early, while advanced hitters refine their mental game and unlock the next level of performance.
You can expect better pitch recognition, improved timing, more confident at-bats, higher quality contact, and significantly better in-game performance. Athletes learn to understand their strengths and attack pitches in their zones with purpose and confidence.
