The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 8

Hello everybody and welcome back to another episode of the Bobby Valentine Sport show. I’m your host, Frank Ramppen. We’re going to get into another week of the baseball season, like we always do. The MLB season is getting down to the wire with just about 30 games left for every team. The division races are heating up, and the Wild Card race is as competitive as ever. Let’s talk about it.

Last night during the Sunday Night Baseball game between the Braves and San Francisco at Oracle Park, one of the craziest double plays I’ve ever seen happened. It was in the top of the fifth inning, and Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a ground ball to the second baseman. The first baseman cut it off, flipped it to the pitcher, who then threw it to the second baseman at first. The second baseman then threw it home, and they eventually called the runner out. It was a lightning-fast play, and it turned out to be a 3-1-4-2 double play. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the first 3-1-4-2 double play in the MLB since 1961.

In our weekly recap, the Seattle Mariners continue to be the hottest team in MLB for the second week in a row. Julio Rodriguez’s impressive performance with 17 hits in four games seems to have ignited their offense. They’ve gone 9-1 in their last ten games, and their hitting has caught up to their solid pitching. Pitchers like Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, and Luis Castillo have been performing well all year. With hitters like Julio Rodriguez and Teoscar Hernandez leading the way, the Mariners have climbed to the top of the American League West, leading both the Rangers and the Astros by a game. The AL West race has turned into a three-team battle, and it’s going to be an exciting finish to the season.

The Outfield play of the week this week featured George Springer’s incredible catch in the game against the Cleveland Guardians. Springer fully extended his body to make a sprawling catch in the right-center field gap, robbing Jose Ramirez of extra bases. It was a highlight-reel play and showcased Springer’s athleticism in the outfield.

That’s it for our weekly recap, and now let’s move on to our Game of the Week. This week’s game was a matchup between the Diamondbacks and the Reds, a series that had playoff implications for both teams. The game was highly entertaining, and it could potentially be a playoff preview if both teams make it. The Reds are currently holding the last wild card spot, and this series was crucial for their postseason hopes.
