The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 23

Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of The Bobby Valentine Sport Show. I’m your host, Frank Ramppen, as always. Let’s jump right into another week of the NFL season. Week eight of the NFL season has come and gone because today is Halloween day, Tuesday, October 31st. Monday night, everything’s been wrapped up. Crazy week of the NFL, and let’s just jump right into it.

Weekly Recap – Week 8 NFL Recap:
What just happened out west? What just happened in both the AFC West and the NFC West? We saw some surprising outcomes. The divisions look a little bit different. The 49ers lost their third consecutive game after starting the season 5-0. The Seattle Seahawks won their game and now have the top spot in the NFC West. The NFC West is being led by the Seattle Seahawks after week eight, not sure everyone would have guessed that, especially after the 49ers’ 5-0 start. The mighty Kansas City Chiefs lose to the Denver Broncos in Denver.

Moving along with a weekly recap, we’ll go to the best section in the end of it, the play of the day. Usually, we pick out one play, but this one was a little bit more special. We’re going with the first career start, the performances, the four career touchdowns of Will Levis out of Kentucky. He made his first career start on Sunday for the Tennessee Titans, wearing the old-school throwback Houston Oilers jersey. He balled out, becoming the third player in NFL history to have four touchdown passes in his first career game.

These were the first four career touchdowns in the career of Will Levis. He faked a handoff to King Henry, pump-faked, and lofted one deep down the left sideline for DeAndre Hopkins, reminiscent of 2016. This bomb was the first touchdown of Will Levis’s career. In the second quarter, he found DeAndre Hopkins across the middle for his second touchdown. Later in the game, he threw two more touchdowns to Hopkins, completing an impressive debut.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 22

Hello everybody and welcome back to another episode of The Bobby Valentine Sport Show. I’m your host Frank Ramppen and let’s get into another week of the MLB season, this time the postseason. The American League and National League Championship Series have come to an end, and the World Series matchup is set. This week of Championship baseball was unbelievable; both of the series went to game seven, unbelievable stuff. We’re going to get into that stuff, all those matchups, all those games. We’re going to tell you all the cool stuff that happened during that. And the World Series matchup is set, and I don’t think anyone, obviously nobody preseason predicted this, nobody during the season was predicting this, and I don’t think anyone even going into the playoffs was really predicting this matchup was going to happen.

The Texas Rangers will be taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks in this year’s fall classic, the 2023 World Series. A pretty intriguing matchup, but something that is so unexpected. Both of these teams lost over 100 games just two years ago, with the Diamondbacks losing 110. That’s unheard of just two years ago, losing over a 100 games. Now, they’re meeting each other in the World Series, unbelievable great turnarounds, unbelievable stuff by both of these staffs and front offices. So really impressive stuff.

But let’s get into these championship series that both went to game seven, that were so entertaining to watch before the post the World Series starts on Friday. But actually, first of all, I made a prediction for those two championship series. One of them was for the American League, obviously, you know the Astro or the Rangers won. I picked the Astros because the Astros always win and that’s just what they do. So honestly, I’m glad I was wrong with that one but whatever. And for the other one, I picked the Phillies ’cause it’s Red October, you know, but was wrong there, so 0 for two there.

My playoff predictions started off kind of meh with the wild card and they’ve just been ever since then just falling off a cliff. Not very good, so I was over to there, and we’ll see if my World Series prediction will hold up, but I’ll tell you at the end of this all. Let’s get into these championship series that were so entertaining to watch.

The first one that started was Sunday, October 15th, the first game of the American League Championship Series between the Rangers and the Astros. Jordan Montgomery for the Texas Rangers got the start, who’s been unbelievable this postseason, and the veteran Justin Verlander got the ball for the Astros. So early on in this game in the second inning, Jaheim was able to get an RBI single to put the Rangers up by one. And Jordan Montgomery, who has been unbelievable against anybody he’s faced, told this great Astros lineup that he didn’t care about them and just mowed right through him. Leot Taris added a home run in the fifth inning to make it two-nothing, and that held throughout the entire game. Jordan Montgomery L it right to the pen, and that just LED smoothly into a game one win for Texas in Houston moving on to the next day Monday, October 16th.

Two games of the championship series started that night, NLCS Game one and ALCS game two. We’ll start with the NLCS. Dbacks were throwing their ace Zack Gallen, Sayan candidate this year who’s been very good this year, their horse, and the Phillies going with Zack Wheeler who’s just unbelievable in the postseason as of late, probably the best pitcher in baseball overall in the playoffs over the past couple of years. So that Phillies game started off with an absolute bang as the bottom of the first, Zach Gallon his first pitch fastball right down the middle. Kyle Schwarber absolutely teed off, crushed it off the facing of the second deck, I believe it was 17 1 mph off the bat, maybe the hardest ball that was hit this whole postseason, smoked it, absolutely crushed that ball. Hey Gallon, welcome to the NLCS.

Two batters later, Bryce Harper, this was October 16th, just so happens to be Bryce Harper’s birthday, and that’s not good news for the Diamondbacks. First pitch he sees, fastball up, absolutely hammers it deep to right-center field, a home run of his own on his birthday, becoming the fourth player in Major League Baseball history to hit a home run on his birthday in the playoffs. Pretty cool stuff there, Bryce, but I mean, INE inevitable, and I mean that really kickstarted the Phillies. In the second inning, they got another home run, another solo shot from Nick Casianos as they had like 20 something solo home runs or 22 home runs in this postseason, 17 of them being solo shots, just an unbelievable statistic. So Nick Casianos adds to the lead, and that just kickstarted the Philly, got them going. It was 5 nothing in the fifth, Geraldo Pomo was able to hit a homer to shorten the deficit, and it ended up being a 5-3 game, but the Phillies were able to hold on for game one.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 21

Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of The Bobby Valentine Sport Show. I’m your host Frank Ramppen, and let’s get into another week of the NFL season.

So, week seven of the NFL season has just wrapped up, and we’re going to get into the talking points from this week as we’re almost halfway through the season. I talk about it every week; this NFL season always goes by so fast. Be prepared; halfway point is right around the corner, and the standings are starting to matter. We’re starting to look at Wild Card races, looking at the divisional races, seeing how those are shaping up. They’re going to start to matter as we head into the double-digit weeks, as I like to call them – week 10 on. That’s when things really start to get dicey; every game matters, and we’re going to get into that time.

It was a weird week again, a lot of teams on bye. I think there were only 11 games on Sunday, so a little bit light on the slate on Sunday, but a lot of action, a bunch of good games, and a lot of highlights that we’re going to get into right now. Let’s start that off with our play of the day.

This was unbelievable; this was early on in the day, pretty early in the window, still in the first quarter, in the Atlanta Falcons/Tampa Bay Buccaneers game. That was a very weird game in itself, a lot of defense, a lot of weird plays happened in that game. Desmond Ridder fumbled one through the end zone for a touchback, Drake London almost did the exact same thing, but he ended up scraping his finger on the ground. If you saw the play, you know what I’m talking about; he got flipped over trying to extend the ball to the one, the ball popped out; it was a really weird play.

But early on in the game, in a 7-7 ball game, Kyle Pitts, who has been the center of a lot of jokes throughout his career because he’s been a very highly touted tight end, played very well at the University of Florida, was a top pick, maybe top 10, I don’t even remember, but he hasn’t really panned out. He’s starting to come around a little bit over the past couple of weeks, and this happened on Sunday. We’re going to take a look at this: second and eight for Atlanta on their own 27-yard line. Here we go; we’re going to pick it up, ball game 7-7. Desmond Ridder fakes a handoff, looks across the middle, finds Kyle Pitts. At first, it’s like, wait, what just happened? You can’t really tell what’s going on there. Like, I don’t even know what really happened there; the ball got caught, I guess, but it looked weird. Here’s the replay: Desmond Ridder fires to Kyle Pitts, throw is behind him, and a one-handed catch. Initially, it looks like he pins this against his back, but if you see this last replay, he catches this ball like he’s throwing a behind-the-back pass in basketball. He doesn’t even pin this thing to his back; all he does is just catch it with his hands, almost like he’s doing one of those Rajon Rondo fake behind-the-back passes in the NBA. Unbelievable; I’ve never seen anything like that. He caught that ball as he was, wild, never seen anything like that. His momentum was taking him away; he just catches it, didn’t even pin it to his back, just all grip strength. Unbelievable; Rajon Rondo in the NFL, that’s what it looked like. That’s without a doubt our play of the day; couldn’t believe it when I saw it. It was unreal; still can’t even really believe it right now. Unbelievable play by Kyle Pitts, and maybe these past couple of weeks before this were good; he had another solid week, made that unreal catch. Maybe this is where it starts for Kyle Pitts on National tight end day 2023; maybe this is the beginning of the start.

Now that we’ve seen our play of the day, we’re going to move on to the next segment, the game of the week. There were a couple of options I could have picked here. There was a good game between the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers; that was a pretty wild game, a lot of weird things happened in that. It ended up being a game-winning field goal to win it for the Atlanta Falcons. There was a crazy game that happened between, um, excuse me, what am I saying? Uh, Thursday night was a pretty crazy game between the New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars. As well as Sunday night was pretty good; it ended up being kind of lopsided, the final score, but if you watched the game, it was pretty highly contested, and it was a really, really hyped matchup between Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa, two quarterbacks that played together at Alabama. You guys know that history where Tua came in to replace Jalen Hurts, who was the starting quarterback at Alabama in the national championship game at halftime as Jalen Hurts was struggling mightily. Tua came in, ramped up the offense, ended up winning the game in overtime, throwing a touchdown pass to Devonte Smith. It was pretty funny that that guy was in the game too; now he plays with Jalen Hurts. Now, he was in that game last night between the Dolphins and the Eagles.

But then the next year, Tua wins the starting job; Jalen Hurts still on the team. Tua gets hurt in the SEC Championship game when they’re losing to Georgia; Jalen Hurts has to come in, leads a comeback, and wins it in the fourth quarter. So it was pretty cool to see; they talked about that a lot in the broadcast yesterday, but that’s not our game of the week either. Our game of the week was an unbelievable shootout from honestly a very surprising game: the Colts and the Browns.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 20

Hello everybody, welcome back to another episode of The Bobby Valentine Sport Show. I’m your host Frank Ramppen, and week six of the NFL season has come and gone. We’re going to dive into another NFL weekly recap, discuss the Game of the Week, and then go into a standings update. The standings are becoming more important as we’re almost halfway through the season. Unlike baseball, football is more of a sprint than a marathon.

As of week six, there are no more unbeaten teams in the NFL. The 1972 Miami Dolphins team is popping champagne, remaining the only undefeated team to ever win the Super Bowl. The 49ers lost to the Browns, and we’ll delve into that game later. The Eagles also lost to the Jets, led by Zach Wilson, in East Rutherford, New Jersey, at MetLife Stadium. The Jets’ defense played exceptionally well, contributing to their victory.

The game between the Eagles and Jets featured a slow start, with a defensive battle reminiscent of the theme for the week. The Browns and Jets, in their respective games against the unbeaten teams, showcased remarkable defense, leading to their victories. Jalen Hurts had a challenging day, throwing a career-high three interceptions. The Eagles had a chance in the last minutes, but the Jets’ defense secured the win.

The NFL’s week was somewhat peculiar, with unusual game timings, including a London game for the third consecutive week. Tampa Bay wore impressive cream school jerseys, though their performance didn’t match the aesthetics. Moving on to the play of the day, let’s highlight the Cleveland Browns vs. San Francisco 49ers game.

In the third quarter, with San Francisco leading by three (10-7), Browns quarterback PJ Walker made a remarkable play. On a third and seven, he surveyed the field and launched a deep pass to Amari Cooper, who made an unbelievable leaping catch, effectively mossing two defenders at once. The play stood out as our play of the day for NFL week six.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 19

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 19

Hello, everyone, and welcome back to another episode of The Bobby Valentine Sport Show, and I’m your host Frank Ramppen. The MLB postseason is about halfway through, a little bit more than halfway through. We’re getting into the championship series now. We’re going to talk about what went on through the Wild Card series, the divisional rounds, and we’re going to talk about a little bit about my predictions that I did go over, a game of the week that happened during this postseason, and I’m sure you could tell which one that was.

A lot of good games, but one that stood out above the rest, unbelievable games, unbelievable series, and a lot of surprising things happened throughout this first week, week and a half of the postseason. So let’s get into it right now. We’re going to break down our postseason recap so far, our weekly recap of the postseason. So wild card and divisional round, we’ll get in that.

So last time we talked, I made some predictions for the Wild Card round, right, and a couple of those predictions were right, a couple of those predictions were wrong, and we’re going to get into that right now. So out of the there was four Wild Card Series in totals, the two Toronto Blue Jays took on the Minnesota Twins, the Milwaukee Brewers took on the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Philadelphia Phillies took on the Miami Marlins, and the Texas Rangers took on the Tampa Bay Rays.

The first of this series was between the Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays, and well, the first one that kicked off, they all were kind of simultaneous, but the first one that happened, we’ll go in order of how they were presented to the viewers. First one was Rangers Rays. The first game of this series had 19,000 people at it. 19,000 people at the game, the least attended MLB playoff game since 1919, over a hundred years ago. Shoeless Joe Jackson was playing in that game in 1919, the last time there was that little people at a major League Baseball postseason game at the Trop.

So what’s Major League Baseball going to do? They’re just going to give the Tampa Bay Rays, who always had a struggling fan base because they’re in St Petersburg, not in the city of Tampa Bay, right? They’re just going to, you know what? We’re just going to build them a new stadium right there, right next door, in the same exact location they are now because that’ll fix everything, right? No, it won’t, but they’re going to take my team, the Oakland A’s, and they’re going to move them out of Oakland and take them to Vegas, right? Even though just four years ago, four short years ago, the AL wildcard game was between my Oakland A’s, and the uh, Tampa Bay Rays, this team I’m talking about right now, at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, there were 60,000 people there. It was the most attended wild card game in the history of baseball. So you’re going to take away that fan base who will fill out a stadium that’s terrible for a team that they love, no matter what, for a team and build a new one in Tampa Bay for no reason.

I’d love to ask Rob Manfred that question. I’d love somebody to ask him that question because I’d love to know the logic behind that right there. How you going to make money and Tampa Bay now? What’s the difference? But off track, already. Let’s get back into the game. Had to get that off my chest though, for sure. I’ve been thinking about it for about a week now, two weeks.

So every single series, that was every Wild Card series that we’re talking about, we’re going to talk about this one because I wanted to get that Rays point out. Every single wild card series ended in a two-game sweep. They’re all three-game series now, two-game sweep for all of them. The Rangers handily took care of the Rays. The Rays played sloppy baseball throughout that entire series, especially in game one. They put themselves in a hole, and really that was kind of it for them. The Rays didn’t really have a chance. Pitching performances from Jordan Montgomery, um, and am I blinking? Oh, uh, Nathan Naldi were very, very good in the Wild Card round. So they were able to take care of them. And Evan Carter, the rookie who’s 21 years old, just turned 21, I believe like a month ago. He just got called up about a month ago as well. Unbelievable start to his postseason career. He reached base like six consecutive times in a row, which is the second most all-time behind J Solair. Unbelievable stuff from him, and he went deep in that Ray Series. So he looked great. They moved on to play the Blue Jays.

The next series that happened in that was the Minnesota Twins took on the Blue Jays. That was in Minnesota because the Twins won their division. And the Twins entered this series on an 18-game wild card or 18-game playoff losing streak, 18 games in a row had not won. They had not won a game since 2004, the ALDS against the Yankees. And they lose the series. But in the first game against the Blue Jays, they finally break that curse. Royce Lewis, their rookie sensation, Mr. Grand Slam, as I like they call him, hit two home runs in his first-ever playoff game. Unbelievable stuff from him in his first two at-bats, mind you, of his postseason career. He went deep. So pretty impressive stuff there. Third player of all time to do that. The Twins, that crowd was so ready to go for that postseason win. They finally got the win, and they finally moved on in the postseason for the first time since I believe 2002 when they moved on against my OCL A. But good for the Twins. They moved on to play the Orioles. We’ll get into the Houston Astros, of course, the Houston Astros because why not? The two National League Series. So that goes over the American League Wild Card, the National League Series. So out of those two, I went 0 for two on picks. I picked the Rays, and I picked the Blue Jays. So my American League Wild Card picks did not look too good. But in the National League, I fared a little bit better because the Phillies and Marlins played, and the Phillies kind of took it over. Red October in Philadelphia. It’s unbelievably hard for anyone to go in there and play. They put up a stat that going into this postseason, the Phillies were 24 and 11 at Citizens Bank Park in the postseason in all their games there in total. So a very hard place for Miami to come in and play in. Phillies played very well. Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler had two horse starters, so they pitched well. We’re able to sweep them in two, candidly. Now they go to play on the Braves. The Diamondbacks were able to use their young stars. They had three players who were younger than 23 years old, the fourth team since 1901 to have three players younger than 22 or 23 years old, Homer in the same game in the postseason. Pretty cool stuff. Their young stars propelled them over the Brewers. They had a great comeback in game one where they were all over Corbin Burns in game one, and then in game two, they were able to come back and take it in two games. So every single Wild Card round, every Wild Card series ended in a two-game sweep.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 18

Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of The Bobby Valentine Sport Show. I’m your host Frank Ramppen, and we’re going to get into another week of the NFL season. So week five has now been here, come and gone, and we’re going to get into the crazy things that we saw over this weekend, with one more game to go tonight. But before I get into that, you might be noticing I’m wearing a football jersey today, special Jersey for the special day that it is today, October 9th, Monday, October 9th, the first Monday Night Football game of the season for the Las Vegas Raiders, the Oakland Raiders in my heart still, but we are playing the Green Bay Packers tonight. So, special occasion, my favorite Raider of all time, Charles Woodson, went into the Hall of Fame as a Raider, just to let you know that’s a fact. Had to bring the Jersey out today because obviously he played for both the Raiders and the Packers, but had to bring out the boy Charles Woodson, my favorite Raider of all time, had to touch one on that.

So hopefully, he’s there today; I hope he lights the torch tonight, he should, why would he not? But we’ll find out. I’ll check back in after that game tonight, but we’ll go into our weekly recap of week five, and it was a pretty interesting week, but I mean this was the first week in the NFL with buys, and to be honest, it felt weird for me. I felt it; it was pretty weird. It felt like there wasn’t as many games, obviously there wasn’t as many games, only had a 12-game slate on Sunday, and it felt like it. I don’t know if that was just me or I don’t know what do you guys think about that, but I felt like kind of a slow day. The 1:00 window only had six games, and then there were four at 4 o’clock, so it was kind of a weird day, and I mean honestly, a lot of the games were not amazing finishes but still, you know great Sunday of football and gotta love sitting there watching seven hours of commercial-free football every Sunday just sitting there baking it in. But we’re going to get into our play of the day, and if you didn’t see this, this came from one of the two I had to pick between two games of the week here; this is the one I actually didn’t choose but kind of went into why I picked this play here. But in the Atlanta Falcons/Houston Texans game in Atlanta, the game ended up being a pretty solid affair; we’ll talk about that in a little bit. Went down to the wire, but early on in the fourth quarter, we’re going to pick it up here at a second and goal for Atlanta. Desmond Ridder is going to take the snap out of the shotgun, and he’s going to feel a little pressure; he’s going to shovel one to Bejan Robinson. You can’t even really tell, and on first glance, this is just like a nice play by the quarterback, quickly getting rid of it because the pocket’s collapsing, flips it up to Bejan, who just walks in for a touchdown. But you’re going to see the replay here, Ritter flips it up to him, and Bijan just one-handed catches it, pins it to his lower back kind of, but wasn’t even looking; he’s looking at the people coming at him. He’s just putting it on his butt as he’s looking at guys to try to juke him out. Like Bijan Robinson has been extremely explosive in his first four games, and that was a very impressive play to watch in week five. Didn’t miss a beat for him; he played really well; he just makes insanely fast jukes. It doesn’t look like he has to slow down his body at all when he’s making a move, making a cut, changing speeds, anything; he’s just everything looks so quick twitch. It’s crazy. Bijan Robinson has been unbelievable for the Atlanta Falcons this year, and that is our play of the day, the no-look butt catch, I guess you could call it that.

Then we’ll move into the game of the week segment, so like I said, this was kind of a weird week for the NFL only 12 games on the NFL Sunday, 13 in total or 14 in total, excuse me, because of Thursday night, Monday night. This game that I was just talking about Atlanta and Houston that was arguably the game of the week because that went down to the wire. Young Who young way coup had to make a game-winning field goal As Time expired; we’ll talk about that a little bit later because Desmond Ritter looked pretty impressive on that last-minute drive. But this game that I did pick for the game of the week was Ravens at Steelers, and it was just your typical AFC North slugfest, just defense.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 17

Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of The Bobby Valentine Sport Show, another episode of the NFL season NFL recap and we’re going to dive into week four of the NFL season now and like I said last week already here one quarter of the way through the NFL season, four weeks down. I guess now it’s not 16 weeks, there’s 17 games for each team, but that’s not an even number so we’re pretty much still a quarter of the way through the season with that extra game at the end so I guess that’s good but still flying by like football season does every single year and we’ll start it off with our weekly recap and some history was made this week during the NFL season.

Christian McCaffrey broke the San Francisco 49er franchise record that was held by Jerry Rice for the most consecutive games with a touchdown scored, 13 games in a row including the postseason. So, 13 games in a row with a touchdown for Christian McCaffrey as a San Francisco 49er breaks the all-time franchise record by the goat Jerry Rice, and he had four total touchdowns in this game. 45 fantasy performance from Christian McCaffrey, he’s unbelievable and whenever this guy is healthy, he’s the best running back in football. It’s unbelievable, unbelievable. Another little bit of history happened between the Indianapolis Colts and the Los Angeles Rams; we’ll talk about the game a little bit more as we go on, but Puka Nacua, the rookie wide receiver, fourth career game, just broke the record for the most reception in a player’s first four career games. 39 in those four games, he had his first catch, he had tied it already through three, he got 31 immediately, and he had nine catches in the game. Nine catches, I believe he had 150 yards, and we’ll talk about him more, but he passed Anquan Boldin had this record before with 30, 30 catches in a game or in his first four games. Puka Nacua, 39 catches in his first four career games, new NFL record.

And something else, sure, I’m not too happy about, as you see all my Raider stuff, you know Khalil Mack, the former Raider on the Los Angeles Chargers now playing against my Raiders, had a six-sack game. Six-sack game, yeah, you heard that correctly, tied for the second most sacks in a game in the history of the NFL and it broke the franchise record for the Los Angeles Chargers. Too much baseball on my head right now, but K Mack absolutely terrorized this yesterday, it was not very fun and we’ll move on to the last thing.

So, three unbelievable performances by three, I mean one breakout star and two stars that have already been in this league for a while, you know who they are. We’ll move into the last segment, the play of the day. So, I mentioned it a little bit before the Colts and the Rams, they had a very, very crazy game going on. KY Williams scored two touchdowns before I could even blink; it felt like that happened in the first two minutes of the game. The Colts ended up going down, the Rams went up 23 to nothing, 23 to nothing in favor of the Los Angeles Rams. And this was the first week back off of the concussion from Anthony Richardson who had played pretty well in his first two games, been good rushing the football; he scored two rushing touchdowns in both of his games and now he returns here but he’s down 23 to nothing. He showed a lot of heart as he never gave up, was able to complete a long touchdown pass to Mo Cox, they went for two, I believe he was able to throw another one and then he ran for one and then he threw another one with a minute and 45 seconds left, then completed the two-point conversion to tie the game with under two minutes to go in the game. Unbelievable comeback from Anthony Richardson; it was very close to being our game of the week, but you’ll see it was next and neck between these two games. The next one I ended up edging out just by a little and you’ll see why.

But 23 nothing for the Rams, Anthony Richardson in the Colts storm all the way back to tie the game up at 23 to send the game into overtime. In overtime, the Rams get the ball, and they’re driving into Indianapolis territory, getting just outside the red zone to the 22-yard line, a third and four play here. Stafford’s in the gun, biggest play of the game, looks over the middle, finds, guess who, Puka Nikua, who splits two defenders and dives into the end zone for the walk-off touchdown to give the Los Angeles Rams a 29-26, or 29 to 23 victory, excuse me, over the Indianapolis Colts. Even though they almost blew a 23-point lead, unbelievable play by Puka Nikua and Matt Stafford to end the game and to spoil the comeback that was almost so amazing by Anthony Richardson; it would have been a signature win for him. But Puka Nikua doing what he does, nine receptions, over 150 yards, and a touchdown yet again because he’s just been absurd. Puka Nikua, remember the name because he looks like he’s here to stay. And I mean sure, Cooper Kupp might be coming back; what are they going to do when there’s both of them? They’re both dudes that are getting 10 receptions a game, they’re open all the time. Like I mean, either one of them is only going to be good or defenses are going to have a lot of issues. So, see be interesting to see as Cooper Kupp could return as early as next week.

And so here’s the reason why that Colts, Rams game was not the game of the week; here we’ll move into the actual game of the week, in my opinion, the Commanders at Eagles.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 16

Hello everyone and welcome back to yet another episode of The Bobby Valentine Sport Show and I’m your host Frank Ramppen. We have finally come to the end of the MLB season, the regular season has come and gone, yesterday was the final Sunday of the regular season, today would be Monday October 2nd. We have the A’s played one game of October baseball because everyone did October 1st and now we’ll get into the real October baseball. But as the season wrapped up, a lot of storylines that happened post-season picture has been completed Legends leaving the game and a bunch of Milestones were reached in the last week of the season so we’re going to get into that now as this is going to be our sort of an end of the season recap post-season look ahead preview so we’re going to get right into it right now and we’ll start with the legends of the sport that we have lost.

Not um we’ll start with one that we’ve lost tragically Tim Wakefield passing the other day due to brain cancer tragic very sad to hear thoughts and prayers out to his wife who’s also suffering from pancreatic cancer so thoughts and prayers up to the Wakefield family. Tim Wakefield Legend one of the best knuckleballers of all time probably the best knuckleballer of all time unbelievable career he’s in the Hall of Fame so remember Tim Wakefield today in your thoughts. Speaking of Legends we’ll move on to the Legends who are moving on throughout the baseball world retiring out of their career and we’ll start with one of the greatest hitters in the history of the sport 3,000 hits, 500 home runs, he hit number 511 this week, over 300 career batting average there’s only three players in the history of baseball to do it: Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Miguel Cabrera.

So Miggy retiring very emotional last home stand for him in Detroit sell out crowds for every game of the year probably their only sellouts of the entire season for every game for this last home stand for him and he actually was in his last at-bat he was walked on four pitches which was kind of unfortunate but of course Mickey the team guy he’s not swinging anything out of the Zone he’s taking his walk he’s going to go to first and I thought that they were going to pinch run for him and give him his like moment and like pinch run for him have him come off the field get a standing ovation is one last time but they kept him in ended up grounding into a double play. The next inning Miguel Cabrera went out to first base for the first time since 2021. Miguel Cabrera played first base for one batter and the second Pitch of the at-bay to Stephen Kwan who was that batter tops one over to First of course Miggy Scoops it up on the backhand holds up a finger runs over to first three unassisted then they take Miggy out his kids come on the field AJ Hinch brings his kids out with him beautiful. Standing Ovation for him so of course the baseball gods are there, ground ball right Miggy’s way two pitches in and the only batter he was at first base for of course had to grab all the him so storybook ending for him he homered earlier like I said number 511 and I mean on one of the legends of the sport maybe the greatest hitter him and puljos two greatest hitters that I’ve ever seen in my life.

Triple Crown winner 2012 and oh funny story he played first base with Spencer Torkelson’s glove because I said he hadn’t played first base in two years before that didn’t have a glove so we used Spencer torkelson’s glove and after he signed the glove he wrote Miguel Cabrera Triple Crown champ 2012 MVP 1213 3 000 hits 500 home runs 12 time All-Star 12 like whatever batting champ such an awesome glove now that Spencer torkerson has to have that Maggie made to play with his last play of his career awesome stuff there for Miggy great stuff from the crowd too they love him there of course how can you not love Maggie won a World Series with the Marlins in 2003 when he was a baby.

Another legend that’s leaving our sport is Joey Votto and he left in not a great not so sweet of a way his last step-bat at Citizens Bank Park in Cincinnati was pretty or not Citizens Bank Park uh Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati was fun but their last game was in St Louis and Joey Votto was actually ejected in the second inning of his last career game potentially so not the ending you’d like to see for Joey Votto um Adam Wainwright another star who’s gone Adam Wainwright actually got to hit in his last at-bat he ended up striking out but he was able to get the at-bat and the night before Bush Stadium had a concert starring out of Wainwright he sold out both stadiums to do a country concert so that’s pretty cool and Zach Greinke had five scoreless innings yesterday against the New York Yankees in his last start of his career and he finishes with 22 strikeouts shy of 3 000 out for the career pretty crazy stuff four Legends of the game leaving and an already Hall of Famer we’ve lost so a lot of Legends leaving the sport of baseball in more ways than one.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 15

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 15

Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of The Bobby Valentine Sport Show and we’re getting into the last week of the Major League Baseball season. The last week after six long months we have finally come to the last week of September and the last almost five days of the MLB season. Last weekend heading up to this week, this is being recorded on Wednesday, so last end of the week and the weekend, and we’re headed to the playoffs by next Tuesday. So very exciting stuff. The AL West race is out of control. The Rangers just took the divisional lead from the Houston Astros because the Astros got swept by the Royals. Yes, swept by the Royals, one of the two worst teams in the American League, and the Rangers swept the Mariners. So two sweeps in a huge tight AOS race to put a little bit of a gap between the three teams, but still, a lot can happen in this last week. We’re going to get into that. The National League Wild Card race has five teams that are still alive in it right now. The American League Wild Card race has four teams still alive, and we’ll talk all about all that crazy stuff going on now.

But before we get into that, we go into our Outfield play of the week, and this one was pretty special in a game earlier this week between the St Louis Cardinals and the San Diego Padres in San Diego. We all know that Fernando Tatis has been playing an excellent right field his first full season in the Outfield as a right fielder. He is playing gold glove caliber right field. He might even win a platinum glove. I’ve said that earlier, but we’re going to get into it right here Richie Palacios coming up for the Cardinals here. Excuse me, that’s not Richie Palacios. I don’t even know how that is, sorry. Cardinals are not having a good year, but he’s going to lift one high and deep to right field. Fernando back to the track to the wall sizes it up, leaps, and pulls back a home run that would have been over the fence about two or three feet. Look how far over the fence he Yanks this ball back from. What an unbelievable play from Tatis. He’s dancing around; he’s loving it. But oh my goodness, he’s done everything. He said it himself; he wanted to rob a home run. Look at that. He’s fully extended over the elbow, sizes up the wall, takes a quick peek. He’s got time. That ball was hit so high, leaps, makes a perfectly timed catch to take a home run away. Let’s take a look at this replay one more time. This slo-mo takes a quick peek and just unbelievable. That’s probably the best home run robbery of the year. Fernando, his first home run robbery as an outfielder, obviously, but unbelievable stuff from him. He might win the Platinum glove, which is crazy to think about after he was a shortstop, and everyone was giving him so much hate for having that terrible defensive year at shortstop, even though he was hitting a bunch of bombs. They moved him to center field for a little bit before he got suspended, and he was terrible. He was dropping routine fly balls; it was bad. It was bad. But this year has been a completely different story, and I mean good for him. Good for him.

Alright, so now we’ll jump into our game of the week segment.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 14

Hello, everyone, welcome back to yet another episode of The Bobby Valentine Sport Show.”

This episode serves as a recap of Week Three of the NFL season, discussing the notable events that transpired. A standout moment is the historic performance of the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. They became the fourth team in NFL history to score 70 or more points in a single game, defeating the Denver Broncos with a score of 70 to 20. The Dolphins’ balanced attack, accumulating 726 total yards and achieving a 50-point win, left a lasting impact. Individual achievements, such as Raheem Mostert and rookie De’Von Achane’s outstanding four-touchdown contributions each, are highlighted.

The discussion delves into the rarity of such high-scoring games, with only four teams in NFL history achieving this feat, the last being in 1966. The Miami Dolphins’ offensive explosion, marked by a unique blend of passing and rushing touchdowns, adds to the team’s historical significance. The recap emphasizes the unprecedented offensive display and potential challenges ahead for teams facing the Dolphins.

Transitioning to the weekly recap, a notable play of the day unfolds during the Jacksonville Jaguars versus Houston Texans game. Despite the Jaguars’ loss, the highlight involves an 85-yard kick return touchdown by Texans fullback Andrew Beck. The unexpected and electrifying run, characterized by evasive moves, a stiff-arm, and a half-hurdle, adds excitement to the game. This play, contributing to the Texans’ victory and winning by a significant margin, is dubbed the “play of the day” for its remarkable and unexpected nature.

As the episode concludes, the focus remains on the unpredictability of NFL games and the potential for extraordinary moments, exemplified by both the Dolphins’ historic performance and Andrew Beck’s exceptional kick return. The Bobby Valentine sports show continues to provide in-depth analysis and captivating commentary on the week’s NFL action.
