The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 13

A lot of teams that are still alive with about a week and a half left, tons of crazy things can happen, who even knows. Hello everybody and welcome back to another week of the Bobby Valentine Sport show, and I’m your host Frank Ramppen like always, and we’re going to get into one of the last couple of weeks of the MLB season, which means that there’s only a couple more episodes of the MLB regular season, only to be a couple more episodes before the playoffs start. So, less about a week and a half until the playoffs start, and both of these Wild Card races are getting absolutely insane.

The American League, the top of the American League right now is the Rays. The two-seed right now by a game is the Toronto Blue Jays, excuse me, and right behind them tied for the third seed is the two teams in the American League West fighting for that division as well, the Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers, who are a half game behind Houston. So, a lot of crazy things happening in the American League, and the National League Wild Card race might be even crazier.

The top of the National League Wild Card right now is the Philadelphia Phillies, who have been going on a little bit of a skid lately. They have been—they played very well over the course of, I mean, July and August, really mid-September. They’ve kind of hit a little bit of a lull. They haven’t been as good as they have been, something to look at there, but they still have that one seed in the National League. The two-seed in the National League Wild Card, the two-seed over there as of right now is the Chicago Cubs. They had that blistering start to start the second half, they still are riding that high, they’re flying that W, they’re in second place in the National League Wild Card. And then at the end of that, there are two teams tied again, the Miami Marlins and the Arizona Diamondbacks, both tied for that last spot with the Cincinnati Reds on the outside looking at by half a game and the San Francisco Giants who have been struggling, struggling lately, three games out now. So, a lot of things, a lot of teams that are still alive with about a week and a half left, tons of crazy things can happen, who even knows? The Yankees are still alive at this point, not a good chance but they’re still technically alive, less than two weeks left of the season.

So this is really it, and we’re going to get into our Outfield play of the week here, and tell me if you heard this on the show before, Cedric Mullins made our Outfield play of the week fourth time that Cedric Mullins has made the Outfield play of the week. This guy is unbelievable in center field, and I love watching him make plays. So, we’re going to jump into a huge series they just had at Camden Yards against the Tampa Bay Rays. Rays were down in the division by, I believe, it was three games going into this four-game set, so the Rays had a chance to leap over the Orioles as the division leaders in the American League East, and they took the first two games. Well, the first two games were won by Tampa Bay, which shrunk that division lead to just one, but the Orioles were able to win the last two, split the series and extend that division lead back up to three. But in one of these games, I believe this was game three, Taylor Walls comes up to the plate in the top of the second inning—excuse me, rips one into the right-center field gap. Cedric Mullins on the run and full extension lays out just in front of the warning track to make a ridiculous play, and oh my gosh, Cedric Mullins. There’s been three times he’s been on the show for robbing a home run. This time it’s finally finally not robbing a home run, but what an incredible play. We’re gonna go back and watch that again, and there are just some plays that you watch further and you watch them run, and you know he’s gonna make that catch. Look at Cedric halfway through this. Taylor Wall smokes it and he’s tracking it down, and then there’s just a third gear by Cedric Mullins there. He’s like, I’m catching this ball. There’s no chance. He picks it up into third gear, lays out, makes an unbelievable catch to end the inning. Cedric Mullins. He has been so unbelievably helpful and clutch for this Orioles team when he’s healthy, and we’re going to get into that.

Now we’re going to move into our game of the week segment, and I mean this Orioles team, they’ve been playing very well. I’ve talked about it a lot since Adley Richmond got called up, actually since last year but this season especially, they’ve been playing very well. They’re on pace to win 100 games, have their best season since 1973. A bunch of records in Orioles history, great team, bunch of young stars as well. But this week has been tough for them. They played two tough teams, teams that are gaining on them in the division, the Tampa Bay Rays and I mean the team that’s been the juggernaut in the AL for the past eight years, the Houston Astros. And in this Astros series, we find our game of the week.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 12

Alrighty, hello everyone and welcome back to another week of the Bowie Valentine Sports show. I’m your host Frank Rampant, like always, and let’s get into another week two of the NFL season.

Now the NFL week two has been completed, a lot of weird teams that are started too and a lot of weird teams that have started 0-2 that people weren’t expecting. But let’s start with one of the craziest blocked field goals that I’ve ever seen in my entire life happened on Sunday night football, Patriots Dolphins in Foxboro. Dolphins are lining up to kick a field goal 17-3, they’re trying to expand their lead to 20-3 and they’re going to try to attempt a field goal. When you’re watching this field goal, take a look at the left side of your screen. Just take a look at the left side of your screen.

So they lineup for the field goal, here it is right here, snap the ball and out of nowhere this guy comes running off the field it looks like. Where did this guy come from? He just runs out of nowhere, blocks the kick. Patriots pick up the ball in Dolphin territory, but where did that guy come from? Let’s go back real quick at the beginning of this play. Everyone’s just standing here and this guy comes out of nowhere from the left side and dives and blocks the kick. Did he sub in? Where did he come from? Did he sub onto the field late? Where was this guy? He comes. So they show a replay and Bill Belichick, the savvy coach that he is, probably has a special team coach practicing this all the time. It was almost like, you know, when Troy Polamalu used to jump the snap count and sack the quarterback before he even could do anything about it. That’s what this looked like. This guy lined up like he was a gunner on a punt formation way over there and he comes flying in, times up the snap count perfectly, dives in, and blocks the field goal. Unbelievable effort there. Crazy play. I’ve never seen anything like that in my life.

And after two weeks of NFL football, there are seven teams that are still undefeated. Two of them from the AFC, the Dolphins got that win against the Patriots on Sunday Night Football, and the Ravens beat the Bengals in Cincinnati. Joe Burrow still struggled, but the Ravens 2-0. Them and the Dolphins are the only two undefeated teams remaining in the AFC.

The NFC has five teams remaining that are undefeated. Two from the NFC East, the Cowboys and the Eagles. That Cowboys defense has looked exceptional. We talked about that last week in that crazy route against the Giants when they won 40 to nothing. Defense looks just as powerful as it did last week against the other New York team, the Jets. The 49ers are also 2-0, and then two teams from the NFC South. Don’t know how many people would have said that after two weeks. The Atlanta Falcons are 2-0, and the Baker Mayfield-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2-0. So let’s see how long these teams last at 2-0, but seven teams undefeated heading into week three.

And we’ll get into our play of the day segment. This was almost a play of the day, but then a not play of the day immediately afterwards. So if you guys didn’t see Denver and Washington played a great game on Sunday in Denver, went up early. Washington looked like they had nothing going on offense, and then out of nowhere came storming back to go ahead. Actually, Denver tied it up. Then Washington scored again. But in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter, with three seconds remaining, Washington up by eight points, Russell Wilson and the Broncos at the 50-yard line, last-second heave to the end zone looking for a Hail Mary, only chance they got. And the ball is batted around multiple times, pops up into the air, and it’s caught for a touchdown by the Broncos. So ball was commanders bat the ball down, bat the ball down, not up. Two defenders in their attempt looking like they’re trying to catch the ball, batted up in the air right to the goal line, right into the hands of Johnson for the touchdown. Oh, that last commander’s safety just tips it right up to the goal line, and great concentration there from Johnson to secure the catch and finish the touchdown.

So now down by eight, Broncos have to go for two to send this game to overtime. No time on the clock, this is the last play of the game, two-point conversion to tie the game. Best play in the playbook here from Sean Payton. This is your last chance to tie the game. Russ lines up in the shotgun, he’s going to take the snap looking right the entire time, throws right to Courtland Sutton, who is unable to come up with the catch. Broncos are complaining, they want the flag. Russ wants it, Courtland Sutton wants it. And if you look at this replay again, it looked as if the Washington cornerback was there a little bit early on the left shoulder of Courtland Sutton, kind of pulling him away from the ball, making it a little bit difficult for him to pull that down. Might have been a defensive pass interference that they missed, but nevertheless, as you see right there, commanders might have been a little bit early for that one, but the throw falls incomplete. Broncos lose by two after completing a Hail Mary-like play to tie the game, but nope. So for two weeks in Sean Payton’s new tenure as the Denver Broncos head coach, a lot of the same as last year. He had a lot of stuff to say before the season, a lot of stuff to say before we played the Raiders, and it hasn’t played out for him so far. So far, Broncos 0-2, and it’s looking like the same things as last year has happened. And what did I say last week? What did this team really change? They got Sean Payton. Yeah, he’s a good coach. I think Sean Payton’s a good coach, but I don’t think just changing your coach is going to turn around an entire franchise just like that. I don’t think that’s how it works.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 11

Alrighty, hello everyone, and welcome back to another episode of The Bobby Valentine Sport show, another MLB episode, another weekly MLB show. Let’s dive into our weekly recap. If you haven’t been noticing, the Atlanta Braves are excelling in baseball. Matt Olson and Ronald Acuna Jr. are shattering records and putting up historic numbers, making them strong MVP candidates. The National League MVP race is fierce, with Acuna, Mookie, Olson, and Freddie Freeman leading the charge. Both the Braves and the Dodgers boast two MVP candidates each, contributing to arguably four of the greatest seasons in recent memory. Matt Olson is on track to break the Braves’ franchise record for home runs, while Acuna is making MLB history with 30 home runs and 60 steals in a year. Over with the Dodgers, Mookie Betts is hitting .340 with over 40 home runs and 100 RBIs from the leadoff spot. Freddie Freeman is also having a stellar season, breaking the Dodgers’ franchise record for doubles. The competition among these four players is truly exceptional.

Now, shifting gears to the hottest team in MLB over the past week and a half—the Baltimore Orioles. With an impressive 8-2 record in their last ten games, they continue to lead the AL East. Even with the loss of Felix Batista, the Orioles have shown resilience, with players like Yanir Cano and Shintaro Fujinami stepping up. The Orioles and the Rays are performing well, securing their positions in the top of the AL East, with the Orioles currently leading the division.

Switching to the Chicago Cubs, they showcase our Outfield Play of the Week featuring Pete Crow Armstrong. In his first Major League start, he made two incredible plays in center field, displaying athleticism and skill reminiscent of his impressive debut. Notably, Pete’s mother, who once played the mom in Little Big League, is now witnessing her son make waves in the big leagues.

Wrapping up the weekly recap, we touched on the impressive debut of Pete Crow Armstrong and the overall excitement building up as we approach the playoffs. As of September 13th, with about two and a half weeks left in the season, the competition is intensifying, and teams are gearing up for the postseason. Stay tuned for our Game of the Week as we continue to follow the exciting developments in the world of baseball.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 10

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 10

Hello, everyone, welcome back to another episode of The Bobby Valentine Sport Show, and I’m your host Frank Ramppen, like always. And it is the first week of the NFL season. The NFL has finally returned, and this is going to be episode one of the NFL Sports Show. So, we’re gonna get right into week one as it has been a long-awaited off-season waiting for this to get down. Week one of the NFL season; Sunday was yesterday, filming on Monday. One more game left tonight, Bills vs. Jets, but almost every team has played. We’re gonna get into the first episode of the new NFL season. Very exciting stuff. And as you can tell, we got the Marcus Allen Super Bowl action. We got Raider stuff all over the place. If you can’t tell yet, Raiders, that’s me. Okay, so we’re gonna dive right into it, and same way we do the baseball, and we’re going to start off with a weekly recap, right? And so, like I said, week one of the NFL season is finally here, and I could not be more excited. Let’s go! Like I cannot be more excited. I was so amped up yesterday to hear Scott Hansen on the red zone, seven hours of commercial free football starts now. And I was losing my mind. It was awesome.

So, same thing we’re going to try to keep this a little bit similar here because we’re going to do baseball and football for about a month here, about a month and a half until the MLB season wraps up, that’s playoffs too. So, the hottest team after I guess week one, very small sample size, clearly because everyone’s only played one game, but last night, today’s a Monday morning, but you’ll see this whenever this week. Sunday Night Football in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Cowboys vs. Giants. Oh my goodness, arguably the biggest blowout in the history of the NFL for a week one game. Very, very disappointing start for the Giants, and I mean great start for the Cowboys. That defense looks absolutely insane. It was the first time in the history of the Cowboys franchise that their first two touchdowns in a season were not on the offense. The first one was a blocked kick for a touchdown and then a pick-six a couple of minutes later. So, that game started off real bad for the G-men and only got worse. I think it was what, 26-0 at halftime, ended up losing the game 40 to nothing. And I mean, that first drive for the Giants, I mean, Saquon had a couple of nice runs, Daniel Jones had a couple of nice runs, they were moving down the field nicely, and then that low snap that went under Daniel Jones’ legs killed them, set up for the field goal, blocked field goal touchdown. They got the ball back immediately, had a big sack, and then the pick six. So, it was tough to watch, and for all you Giants fans, I’m, by having been friends with a lot of Giants fans, must have been a very, very bad night. I feel for you. You know, because I’m a Raiders fan, you know, you’ve seen some things that we’ve done. You see that last Super Bowl, yeah, uh-huh, yeah, 50 years ago, um, or I guess 40. Um, and then we’re gonna go with, so we always did the outfield play of the week segment. It’s coming up soon, but no outfielders in this sport, obviously. So, we’re just gonna go with our play of the day, play of the day from Sunday.

And I’m not sure if you guys saw Jaguars vs. Colts. Anthony Richardson was making his first career start at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence. And this game was actually very close, the Colts played very well. It was a very contested game until the end. The Jaguars kind of pulled away a little bit. But I mean, I was actually very impressed with this entire Colts team and Anthony Richardson. Like, so pretty good stuff for them. But we’re gonna go into about five minutes to go in the second quarter here. Jaguars going in just inside the Red Zone, and a 2nd and 13 play. And we’re gonna pull this up here, Trevor Lawrence going to take the snap, take a couple of steps back, and he’s going to loft one to the far right corner of the end zone. And look at that throw and catch. Trevor Lawrence and Zay Jones, that connection was unbelievable. I watched this live yesterday on RedZone, and when he made this throw, it went up, I was like, ‘Oh, oh, oh,’ and then he just, Zay Jones scooted right around. He just outran him, outran the defender, perfectly thrown ball, great catch by Zay Jones as well, able to keep both feet in, secure the ball. And if they show this other replay, he basically caught the top of this football, like right here, but it was like that. Pretty crazy stuff, look at this right here. You see that? And then he takes his left hand off it because he’s just right here. Perfectly executed throw and catch there. Zay Jones, Trevor Lawrence. Trevor Lawrence looked very, very good yesterday. I have him on one of my fantasy teams, and that’s very encouraging. But Trevor Lawrence looked very, very, very good. And I know there’s like not everyone believes in him, which I kind of think is crazy. I think he’s going to be very good. He’s very young; he’s only going to get better. I think the end of his last year, that playoff game when they beat the Chargers after that, they’re down 27 nothing, 28 nothing. I think he’s for real. I think he’s for real with that flow, still looks like a college boy, you kidding me?

Um, next segment here, we’re gonna get into the game of the week segment, and there’s just no doubt. No doubt the game of the week came from Sofi Stadium in Inglewood, California, between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Miami Dolphins. And what an absolute shootout this game was. Oh my goodness, if you didn’t open the fantasy mobile app, you didn’t watch any football yesterday, and Tyreek Hill absolutely torched, torched this LA Chargers defense for 60 Minutes. Six. Oh my, like, we’re gonna get into it here, but oh my goodness, this was an unbelievable game in the four o’clock window. Right, and we’ll get it started.”

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 9

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 9

Hello everybody and welcome back to another episode of the Bobby Valentine Sport show. I’m your host Frank Ramppen, and we’re getting into another week of the MLB season. First week of September, and the playoff races are getting absolutely crazy. A lot of crazy stuff happened over the past week. Let’s get into it right now.

So we’ll get into the weekly recap like we always do. And if you didn’t see it, Ronald Acuna Jr. just had one of the most eventful days I’ve seen in the MLB in a very long time, maybe ever.

In the morning, Ronald Acuna Jr. had to get married. He got married to his girlfriend, now his wife. This was because she would have to leave the country at the end of the week for three months because of her visa or whatever she has. So instead of doing that, he was like, “You’re not leaving. We’re gonna get married this week.” So he gets married Friday morning. Friday night, he plays a game at Dodger Stadium and hits a grand slam to become the first player in the history of Major League Baseball to have a 30 home run season and a 60 stolen base season. That was his 30th home run, unbelievable stuff.

Absolutely crushed a grand slam into the pavilion at Dodger Stadium off the Landslane, the MLB’s leader in giving up home runs by the way. And he didn’t even stop there. That was unbelievable. First player ever with 30 homers and 60 stolen bases in a season. And then the next day, he came right back and hit another home run, 121.2 miles an hour off the bat, the hardest hit ball of the season. It got over the fence before the center fielder James Outman could even turn around and look at it. It was unbelievable. The ball literally got, I think, 60 feet off the ground, 121 miles an hour, 450 feet, 440, I believe it was. The guy is a specimen, unbelievable, otherworldly person.

We’re gonna pull this up right here. This is the Grand Slam. So Friday night, he gets married this morning, and he comes up in the top of the second in a tie game, mind you, Lance Lane on the mound, bases loaded, one out, top of the second inning, 1-1 ballgame, and Ronald Acuna Jr., if you’ve watched any Braves baseball this season, this guy has been unreal. Mookie took him over for our MVP front-runner last weekend, but Acuna went to Dodger Stadium and took it right back. And he absolutely launches this baseball into the night at Dodger Stadium. It’s a blast-off, pimp job, grand slam, 5-1 Braves. Peace out. Not even the Dodgers, the red-hot Dodgers could slow down this Braves team. Unbelievable.

And then here’s the 121. This is off of Emmett Sheehan, 3-0 count, by the way, fastball on the outer part of the plate. It’s absolutely a night. James, look at him. He didn’t even have a chance to see that ball get over the fence on a rope into that net they got over the fence in center field. Jesus, Ronald Acuna is an absolute psychopath, absolute psychopath here. I got that, and front runner for MVP, geez, I can’t speak right now. For MVP right back very, very quickly. What a beast.

And so we’re going to talk about our hottest team in the league this week. And last week, it was for two weeks in a row, actually, for basically the entire month of August. It was the Seattle Mariners. They just had their best month in the history of the Seattle Mariners franchise. But they kind of hit some struggles over the past week. They lost a series to the Mets this weekend, which was very weird. The Mets of all teams took the Seattle Mariners off their high horse right now. Very weird.

But, surprise, surprise, the Atlanta Braves are the hottest team in the MLB yet again, and they’re just killing everyone. Like the Dodgers, they just beat them in a series. They almost swept them. They lost yesterday. But I mean, they beat them two out of three. They’re just killing everyone, and they look unstoppable right now.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 8

Hello everybody and welcome back to another episode of the Bobby Valentine Sport show. I’m your host, Frank Ramppen. We’re going to get into another week of the baseball season, like we always do. The MLB season is getting down to the wire with just about 30 games left for every team. The division races are heating up, and the Wild Card race is as competitive as ever. Let’s talk about it.

Last night during the Sunday Night Baseball game between the Braves and San Francisco at Oracle Park, one of the craziest double plays I’ve ever seen happened. It was in the top of the fifth inning, and Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a ground ball to the second baseman. The first baseman cut it off, flipped it to the pitcher, who then threw it to the second baseman at first. The second baseman then threw it home, and they eventually called the runner out. It was a lightning-fast play, and it turned out to be a 3-1-4-2 double play. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the first 3-1-4-2 double play in the MLB since 1961.

In our weekly recap, the Seattle Mariners continue to be the hottest team in MLB for the second week in a row. Julio Rodriguez’s impressive performance with 17 hits in four games seems to have ignited their offense. They’ve gone 9-1 in their last ten games, and their hitting has caught up to their solid pitching. Pitchers like Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, and Luis Castillo have been performing well all year. With hitters like Julio Rodriguez and Teoscar Hernandez leading the way, the Mariners have climbed to the top of the American League West, leading both the Rangers and the Astros by a game. The AL West race has turned into a three-team battle, and it’s going to be an exciting finish to the season.

The Outfield play of the week this week featured George Springer’s incredible catch in the game against the Cleveland Guardians. Springer fully extended his body to make a sprawling catch in the right-center field gap, robbing Jose Ramirez of extra bases. It was a highlight-reel play and showcased Springer’s athleticism in the outfield.

That’s it for our weekly recap, and now let’s move on to our Game of the Week. This week’s game was a matchup between the Diamondbacks and the Reds, a series that had playoff implications for both teams. The game was highly entertaining, and it could potentially be a playoff preview if both teams make it. The Reds are currently holding the last wild card spot, and this series was crucial for their postseason hopes.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 7

Hello, everybody, and welcome back to the Bobby Valentine Sport Show. I’m your host, Frank Ramppen, like always. If you can’t tell yet, we’re in a little different setup this time. I actually just moved back into school. I’m back down in West Palm Beach, Florida, so I’m in my apartment room now, not my dorm room. It’s a little different setup. We don’t have all the pictures on the wall, but we’ve got a nice little setup now. A little bit different because the NFL season is so close. We’re gonna get our Raider stuff to go, so we’ve got a bit of both. We’ve got some Raiders, we’ve got some A’s, we’ve got some little Baseball Classic, and we’ve got my map of my road trip that I want to take of all the stadiums starting in Florida, going all the way around. So, we’ve got a nice little setup here, but we’re going to jump right into it.

Also, I got a new A’s shirt. If you haven’t noticed, but if you’re an A’s fan, you might know what this is. It’s not a very happy one. It’s kind of a sad one. My friend down here gave this to me yesterday. Shout out to Kadina if you’re watching this, brother. Thank you, dude. He got me the Fuji shirt, but if you know, Fuji’s gone already. He only spent about half of his first MLB season with the A’s, and now he’s already back or he’s already gone. He’s with Baltimore. Sad for A’s fans because he was pretty exciting. He throws 102, but I mean, he was very wild, very, very raw player. So hopefully, he can turn it around in Baltimore, see if they can do better with him. But that makes their bullpen even more dangerous-looking.

Now that we’ll get past that, new setup, new place. This is where we’re gonna be for the next couple of months. Get used to it. This is a new place for me doing baseball and football soon. A little preview here. Alright, so now we’re going to get into our weekly recap, like always, and we’re going to start it off with the hottest player on the planet right now, the absolute freak of nature. Something happened to this guy after the All-Star break. Something happened to this team as well after the All-Star break. Julio Rodriguez just had 17 hits in a four-game span over this past week, as the most hits ever in a four-game span. 17 hits in four games. Think about that. He had nine straight hits at one point. Nine straight hits, nine at-bats in a row, a hit. Tied a franchise record, four straight four-hit games, and one of those games obviously was a five-hit game. If you factor in the math, four times four is sixteen, plus one is seventeen. So, four four-hit games in a row with a five-hit game. He was the first player with four-plus hits in four consecutive games since Milt Stock in 1925, almost 100 years ago, about 98 years. He’s the 13th player since 1900 with three straight four-hit games, and he’s the only person to do it with four stolen bases during the span. And during this time, his average went from 256 all the way up to 278, 22 points. It’s August. Your average is not supposed to move that much in August. What are we talking about? Julio is on a different planet right now.

So, 17 hits in four games. During that same exact four-game stretch, the New York Yankees, who we’re going to talk a little bit more about in the future of this episode—oh boy, they had 17 hits in those four games as a team. So, Julio Rodriguez had the same number of hits as the entire Yankees team for four games. In those four games, Julio scored five runs himself, and the Yankees scored four. So, Julio Rodriguez by himself was a better offense than the Yankees for the entire week since last time we talked. Guys, what’s going on? Wow. So, Julio Rodriguez just is on an absolute tear right now, just tearing it up, ripping the cover off the baseball, and the Seattle Mariners are the hottest team in the league now. The Seattle Mariners are 8-2. They’re on an eight-game winning streak, and they don’t look like they’re stopping at all. They’re not even in the Wild Card hunt right now. They’ve put themselves into the American League West race too, and we’re going to talk about that more in our standings update. But the top of the American League West right now, three teams are separated by one run, or one game, think about that. Texas, Houston, and Seattle, all within one game of each other, headed into the last month of the season. That’s going to be a very wild race in the American League West. It’s gonna be fun to watch.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 6

Alright, hello, hello, hello, and welcome back to the Bobby Valentine Sport show. I’m your host Frank Ramppen, as always, and we’re going to dive into another week of this year’s baseball season as we’re about halfway through August. Now, getting to the nitty-gritty of the baseball season, with about a month and a half to go, let’s start with our weekly update. So, let’s start with our weekly recap, and we have a little bit of a different section to start this off, and it’s the “What Just Happened” segment.

Wednesday night in Boston at Fenway Park, Red Sox versus the Royals. Kyle Isbel comes up, and got the video here right for you. Kyle Isbel comes up and smokes one to left field over Masutaki Yoshida’s head. He doesn’t see the ball; he doesn’t catch; he’s like, “What, where’s the…?” If you notice, the first out light is shattered. The ball went right through the first out light, shattered right through it, and it’s just sitting in there. A run scored from first, mind you. It was a ground-rule double. The runner had to go back to third, and the run ended up not scoring. The Red Sox ended up winning by one run. So, the green monster comes into play, swallows up a ball, the monster it is, and saves the Red Sox, keeps the Royals off the board, saves them a run, and ends up winning them the ball game.

Fun fact, I’ve been talking about Hernandez, the bobblehead night. That was Hernandez bobblehead night, so I was there. If you’re listening, you commented before, “Hey, home now, home now. Are you kidding me? Get him in there, get him in there.” Look at that, gotcha brother right here. He wasn’t playing in that game, obviously, because he’s on the Dodgers now. Pretty interesting stuff. Masutaki Yoshida, I thought I was at the game. I was sitting down by the pesky pole in right field on the right field line. I thought he caught it from my angle. It looked like Yoshida jumped up and made a nice catch at the wall. I thought the noise was him smashing into the wall. After he got up and started looking around like, “Oh, he didn’t catch it,” I thought then it hit off his glove and went into the little slit in the wall where the guys with the camera and the guy who does the scoreboard is sitting at. That’s what I thought happened, but then you could tell that the first outlet was a little bit off. It was broken, a little bit shattered. You could tell that the lights had a little bit of white in it. You could see the actual light coming through the red, and sure enough, Yoshida reaches into the wall and grabs the ball out, ground-rule double. After the game, Alex Cora had this to say: “We go over the rules, and they always ask about if the ball gets stuck in the monster. I’m like, ‘That’s not gonna happen,’ but it did. So, that may be a first, and I was there for it.” So pretty cool thing to see Hernandez bobblehead night. Let’s go, baby. Love you. Let’s go, baby, even though you’re killing my A’s. You just smoked my A’s in a series last week, but it’s all right. Don’t worry about it.

Next part, we’re going to go with MLB’s hottest team, keeping that trend going. Instead of this week, last week, it was the Baltimore Orioles. Now we’ve moved on to the Los Angeles Dodgers. They’ve regained their regular-season dominance. Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman are just so good at baseball. Like, they’re just so good at baseball. They’re like, they’re so good. Freddie, with over a 25-game span, was hitting 500 for a 25-game span. Freddie Freeman was hitting 500. That’s unheard of. And I mean, like I said, the Dodgers look like the normal, regular-season dominant Dodgers that they do every single year. And I mean, it’s really absurd. It really is. I’m sorry. I can’t get over how much I love this. One. It’s such a great addition. Now, look at this. Look at this guy we got. We got Chapman. We got Madio, who we’re going to talk about a lot today. Are you kidding me? We got Bobby with the mustache. We got Nestor, Captain America. Derek Jeter, Bucky Dent, you kidding me? And then we got Severino. Oh, boy. I’m going to talk about that one. And then now we’ll move on. I say it every week, my favorite part of the weekly recap, the outfield play of the week.

Making his outfield play of the week segment return, by the way, this is episode six, right? Hi, Valentine Sports Show, episode six. This is going to be the third appearance by this man in six weeks. So he’s accounted for 50 percent of our outfield plays of the week. Just putting that out there. But here we go. Cedric Mullins. Oh, my God, this guy seems like he’s making a ridiculous play every other time I watch the Orioles play. He did get hurt. He spent a little bit. He spent about a month, maybe three weeks to a month down in the minor leagues, but he’s back, and oh, boy, is he back. So we’re going to jump to Seattle, where the Orioles are taking on the Mariners. Bottom of the ninth inning, three to two lead for the Orioles. And Ty Francis hitting with one away in the bottom of the ninth inning. And we’ll pump it up. So Francis gets one and smokes it to deep right-center field. Cedric Mullins back to the wall, leaps, and oh, my goodness, are you kidding me? He pulled this thing about two feet over the fence, yanked it back. It would have been the tying run home run right there, and he just yanks it back. Are you kidding me, Cedric Mullins? We got to look at this one more time. Are you serious right now? Oof, Ty France really getting into that one. Cedric to the track and oh, like how many times has he robbed the home run? Instagram. How many times do you have the home run this year? That’s the third time he’s been on this. And all three of the plays have been him robbing a home run. He robbed Byron Buxton of two homers earlier, and then he just robs Ty France at the time, a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

So two away now, right? Two away. Next batter, two pitches later, Dominican zone with the bat flip. Oh, my goodness. Off the windows of the suites back there at T-Mobile Park. Oh, my God. Are you kidding me? So Cedric goes out there and makes a ridiculous home run robbery to prevent the tying run, and then two pitches later, up again, this time an absolute no-doub

ter. Cedric, nobody in the world has a chance to rob that one. Are you kidding me? That ball is smoked off the facing of the sweets in the second deck. You kidding me? Let’s add the Richmond territory from last year from this year’s Home Run Derby. Look at this. Oh, look at that backflip. Are you kidding me right now? Jeez. And that’s his first home run as a mariner.

So Cedric Mullins almost saved the game one out away, and then a home run. But guess who comes up in the top of the 10th inning? Cedric Bones. And after working a 3-2 count and ripping an absolute moonshot that just went fast, just went foul, three-two count, about an eight, nine-pitch at-bat, foul homer. Cedric goes and does this, blast off two-run homer, top of the 10th inning. Cedric Owens robs a home run. Cedric Mullins hits a home run. Orioles win 5-3. Are you kidding me right now? This is the Cedric Mullins game. This guy is just a regular. He’s a regular on our outfield play of the week segment. He comes, oh, he’s 50 of the time, et cetera, willing to drop in home run. So he robs a home run, comes up in extras, and absolutely tees off on a 3-2 pitch to win the game for the Baltimore Orioles.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 5

The Bobby Valentine Sport show is back, and this week’s baseball action has been nothing short of spectacular. A highlight from this week includes a brawl between Jose Ramirez and Tim Anderson, possibly one of the greatest MLB fights in history. They both went all out, and Jose Ramirez laid Tim Anderson out. It was an intense showdown.

Moving on to another exciting topic, the Chicago Cubs are on fire. They’ve won 13 of their last 16 games, and they recently beat the Atlanta Braves in a series. Their offense is looking formidable, and they’re currently in the mix for a wild card spot and even a shot at the NL Central.

Additionally, the July Players of the Month were announced. In the American League, Shohei Ohtani received the Player of the Month award for the second consecutive time, showcasing his incredible hitting and pitching abilities. He hit .282 with nine home runs and had an OPS of 1.152. He’s a strong candidate for the AL MVP. In the National League, Cody Bellinger was named Player of the Month for July. He hit .400 with an OPS of 1.122, eight home runs, and 24 RBIs. His performance has been instrumental in the Chicago Cubs’ recent success.

For the pitchers of the month, Tyler Glasnow received the award in the American League. He made six starts in July, posting a 2.11 ERA with 51 strikeouts. He held his opponents to a .186 batting average. In the National League, Corbin Burns of the Milwaukee Brewers was named Player of the Month. He had a 1.85 ERA, a 0.72 WHIP, and opponents hit only .115 against him in July.

Finally, the Rookie of the Month award went to Tristan Casas from the Boston Red Sox in the American League. He turned his season around in July, hitting .349 with an OPS of 1.199 and seven home runs. In the National League, Francisco Alvarez, a Mets catcher, made an impressive impact with eight home runs, 16 RBIs, a .623 slugging percentage, and a .974 OPS.

These players and teams are making waves in the baseball world, and it’s an exciting time for fans of the sport.

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 4

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 4

The Bobby Valentine Sport Show: Episode 4

Welcome back to another episode of the Bobby Valentine Sport show, and I’m your host Frank Ramppen. We’re going to get into another episode of the MLB recap. We’ll go into a weekly recap, as we do every week, a game of the week, and then we’ll discuss the biggest trades that have happened because the trade deadline was yesterday (August 2nd).

This week, we’ve seen some unexpected things happening in Major League Baseball. For instance, the Yankees entered August in last place for the first time since 1990, and the Reds entered August in first place for the second time in the last 25 years. The Orioles lead the AL East for the first time since 2016, and the Texas Rangers lead their division for the first time since 2016. The Cardinals, usually contenders, entered August in last place for the first time since 1995. This season has been full of surprises.

One interesting trend is that the top four teams in payroll in the MLB are the New York Mets, the Phillies, the Padres, and the Yankees. However, three out of these four teams are not in playoff contention at the moment. The Mets, with the highest payroll ever, just had a fire sale, and the Padres and Yankees are also struggling this year. It’s a stark contrast to what was expected at the beginning of the season.

In terms of player performance, Shohei Ohtani continues to dominate. He was named the American League Player of the Week for hitting .300 with three home runs and a 1.282 OPS. He also threw a complete game shutout with eight strikeouts in one game. On the National League side, Pete Alonso of the New York Mets was named Player of the Week after hitting .304 with four home runs and a 1.197 OPS.

Now, let’s discuss the game of the week. On July 28th, the Cardinals faced the Cubs, and it was a thrilling contest. Lars Nootbaar of the Cardinals hit two home runs in the early innings, but the Cubs made a comeback. There were incredible defensive plays, including a spectacular throw by Tyler O’Neill and a game-saving catch by Mike Tauchman to rob a walk-off home run.

It was a back-and-forth affair with great defensive plays throughout, and the game ended with an unforgettable robbery of a potential walk-off home run. The Cubs celebrated the win as if they had won the World Series. It was an incredible game.
