BVSA Sports Show: Episode 18

Joe – Episode 18 of the BVSA Sports show. We have my beloved golf instructor to the end there, Matt, and the man in the middle needs no introduction, Bills Mafia as New Canaan High School likes to call him, Coach Mike. Co-fantasy football champion, is that how we established that?

Mike – It depends on which perspective you’d like to choose, but I like to think of myself as the crowned champ, thank you.

Joe – Crowned champ. Make sure we get a crown delivered to you ASAP. Last episode that we’re gonna be talking any kind of football for a while. Obviously, the Super Bowl is now behind us, a great game. The right team won. Coach Matt’s spot on back from November predicted the Super Bowl, predicted the winner, basically predicted why it kind of all came to fruition. We posted that short a couple of days ago of him just sitting there, arms crossed, relaxing over there on the turf, and spot on prediction. So congratulations to you.

Matt – Appreciate that.

Joe – So if you really want to dive into the game and that everyone’s been talking about that holding call at the end, I’m kind of over that conversation. The fact that the guy who held him said it was a hold, I’m good with it. Let’s move on from there. The real conversation for me is Patrick Mahomes and comparing him to Tom Brady already. Basically, if he retired today, is he a Hall of Famer? The guy’s 27 years old, he’s been a starter for five years, he’s hosted every AFC Championship game. To me, he could retire today, he could be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. What else does he have to prove?

Matt – Yeah, I probably agree with you. So the big comparison, yeah, you can compare him to Tom Brady. But when you talk about his athletic ability, what he can do with the football, he’s more like Aaron Rodgers in that aspect. You’re seeing things that you’ve never seen before, or just haven’t seen it as consistently. Yeah, like his throwing on the run, the whole dropping the arm angle, and he makes it look effortless the way he does it. Now, obviously, the winning aspect is where he gets Tom Brady. Now you’re combining Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. I mean, that’s kind of like the perfect quarterback in my eyes. But yeah, I think it’d be harder to argue that he’s not a Hall of Famer already.

Joe – Yeah, he will go down as number one going into next year, ahead of your beloved Josh Allen and Joe Burrow and all these other guys, right? He has separated himself so far from everybody else currently playing, and that includes Aaron Rodgers right now in the shape that he’s in, what he’s doing, if he even still wants to play. Tom Brady obviously just retired, so he’s far and above everybody else currently playing. And then it comes down to, like you said, the Aaron Rodgers comparisons. I think it’s spot on, and the Tom Brady comparison. They put their stats up side by side of each other, and he’s got almost double the yards, fewer turnovers, more touchdowns. The rings, everything else he’s gonna finish with, you know, the sky’s the limit, three, four, five more, right? He’s got 10 more years this guy could stay healthy, which this year he wasn’t, and he’s hobbling along, playing on one leg, and still wins the Super Bowl. So, you’re gonna enjoy going up against him for years to come.

Mike – You know what, here’s the thing, the best thing and worst thing he has going for him right now is time, right? He has the time to go on and surpass Brady, obviously, as you mentioned with the numbers already, but he also has the time to go on and totally deflate throughout his career, and mix his legacy up with what we think of it now, you know?

Joe – So, it’s definitely a long way to go, but the fact that this was the first year he lost Tyreek Hill, everyone was saying, taking a step back, loaded AFC West, which on paper it was, all four teams, right? Travis Kelce made sure everyone knew about it during the parade, like all these guys that called them out and said they’re not making the playoffs, Patrick Mahomes is this and that, and then they just go out and did it. So, we’ll leave that for now, but staying on the topic of these quarterbacks, what we want to do today is kind of go through all of these quarterbacks, really, as the carousel is going to start to turn, right? Tom Brady was the first piece that fell, sounds like he’s retired for good, and apparently he’s now like shooting straight up to the A-team for, uh, is it Fox, whatever. Greg Olsen’s done, which I thought he’s doing a pretty good job, but yeah, but Tom Brady’s broadcasting career is about to take off. Since we’ve talked about Aaron Rodgers, all right, let’s go kind of down the line here of, like, where the hell is he going? He took four days in darkness to think about it and meditate, and sounds like a decision might come soon. I think the Derek Carr shoe is going to fall first, but we’ll start with Rodgers. Where is he going?

Matt – I would say the Jets because of the coaching alignment with the offensive coordinator, right? So, um, I don’t know, he played with him before. He was a terrible head coach, but I mean, he did pretty well on the offensive side. So, um, if he feels like the Jets have enough talent to get to a Super Bowl, which, honestly, on paper, I would say they do. I think that defense is ridiculous, plenty of young players that are just going to keep getting better. Um, probably need a little bit more on the O-line, but they have pretty good weapons on offense. You can always add a couple if they wanted to. Um, I think he would be happy going there, but I think it would be, it’d be a little different, right? Because he was on the Packers where every year it was, “Oh, Aaron Rodgers has no weapons. They’re not trading for anybody. They don’t draft wide receivers ever.” So, um, going to the Jets, I think they have to promise him, like, “Hey, like, we’ll make, like, if you want us to do more, if you feel like you need more to get it done, we’ll get it done. Like, we’ll find a way to get you here and compete for a championship.” I think that’s the spot for him, personally.

Mike – Now, I haven’t been keeping up too much with the Aaron Rodgers thing, you know? I personally think he ventures into isolation. We never see or hear from him again, but that’s my personal theory. What I could definitely imagine is him reuniting with his boy, D Adams. Okay. I think both him and Rodgers learned this year how vital they are in each other’s success. And that’s not saying that either can replace the other. It’s just saying that they found a groove together that, you know, maybe at this point in their careers, they don’t want to have to try to find with somebody else. So that’s what I think is going for both of them. I think both of them, Rodgers wants another ring, Adams wants another ring. And, you know, they figure they might as well get back together and go for it together in these last however many years of their respective careers.

Joe – Yeah, those are the two, in my opinion, the two only options for them. Option three is he’s retiring, right? He had some ties to San Francisco. They have enough going on with their three quarterbacks. I don’t think he’s gonna entertain that or vice versa, right? As much as I would love to be a very optimistic, hopeful Washington Commanders fan, I don’t think he’s gonna go anywhere near them, at least until they figure out the whole ownership thing. Yeah. So the one dark horse team that Derek Carr now is apparently a little bit tied to is the Saints. I have no idea what they’re going to do with quarterback. It sounds like they want to make some kind of splash. Yeah. But to your point, I mean, I can go Jets. I can go Raiders. To be different, I’m going to say he just flat out retires. I think he’s done. I think he’s uninterested. He’s ready for the next phase of his life. He went to go sit in darkness. I forget what it’s called, but it was like 96 hours of just like isolation. Yeah, he’s done it before, apparently. And yeah, I just think he’s going to like, Vegas could be a spot where he can win, but comes with headaches. The Jets is a spot he could definitely win. It’s going to come with headaches. I don’t think there’s like a clear path for him. And I think he’s going to just kind of hang it up.

BVSA Sports Show: Episode 17

Joe – Talking strictly Super Bowl, no baseball, nothing else, all football, a lot of stuff we can dive into, obviously with the game itself, the last two games that were played. We pulled up some cool props that are gonna be going on on Sunday. Everyone kind of gets into the props instead of just the game and the winner and the over/under and stuff like that, so we’ll dive into that after today. After this week’s show, we have about three weeks of dead time. World Baseball Classic starts early March, March Madness, MLB baseball, so we’re going to look to find some other plug-ins like Bobby, like Nic Civale we had last week, so definitely plenty of content coming your way, just maybe not so much, you know, picks and predictions and stuff like that for at least the next couple weeks until they get into March. Let’s start with the football side of things, giving you the credit where credit is due. Tip my cap to you. I thought it was just from a couple of weeks ago, you were spot on with the Eagles and the Chiefs. You said it during the championship round two weeks ago. You said it definitely pre-playoff. You’re going back all the way from Thanksgiving.

Matt – Yeah, this was like episode five, I think, this was like the week before Thanksgiving. We were just doing our Super Bowl picks just to kind of have an idea. What do you think is going to happen, blah, blah, with where we’re at? And yeah, my original prediction was Chiefs-Eagles, and I had the Chiefs taking it all. So I’m pretty happy with… I’ve never… I don’t think I’ve ever predicted it like that. Now, obviously, they were like the two best teams, but that was just early on. So, yeah, I’m pretty happy with myself right now.

Joe – Regardless of the timeline of it, the idea of betting chalk or betting the favorites, like, when it works, you come out looking like a genius, and guys like me that were trying to find value and find something a little bit different in Cincinnati and San Fran, and the two games, the two championship games were fine, in my opinion. Obviously, Brock Purdy goes down, tried throwing with nerve damage to his UCL, needs Tommy John. Josh Johnson comes in, fourth quarterback. I don’t care how good that roster is, top to bottom, they were gonna have a tough time moving the ball. Christian McCaffrey even made a throw or two, I think. Yeah, so obviously that game was a wash. And then the second game, which I think was going to be the more exciting of the two, a lot less scoring than we thought. Yeah, and in my opinion, and a lot of people agree, a little bit of some sketchy officiating.

Matt – I think I mean, this year has been kind of all over the place with officiating. And then it’s funny you say that because I think it was this past week Goodell was like, “Yeah, we think this is like the best year we’ve had or the officiating is great right now.” And I’m like, “I don’t know about that.” It’s tough because like they’re making it so that every little thing counts as a flag or whatnot now. And it’s like, you can’t touch the quarterback all this other stuff, late hits, blah, blah. So I mean, it’s tough. I’ll give them a little like, you know, I mean, sometimes they don’t really know. They may not even know the rule because it changes so often now. So, yeah, it does suck to see it in such a big game, obviously you don’t want to see that. You’d rather see that in the regular season when it’s done with, when you get to the playoffs. But unfortunately, it was a part of it.

Joe – Yeah, it happens across all sports, right? For football, people say you can argue there’s holding on every play. Like if they really wanted to call it or find it, you can. I know in hockey, they tend to call less penalties in the playoffs, like let the guys play, let them figure it out. And to an extent, football, I like to believe does the same thing. The biggest problem is, like you said, they don’t know what to call or to what extent. Like these roughing the passer calls, crazy. So Joe Burrow goes down, no call. Patrick Mahomes goes down, he gets the call. The biggest thing for me, the only officiating one, the biggest play that sticks out for me is the redo third down. Yeah, that was… it looks like the ref from a distance was running in where the safeties are trying to blow the play dead. No one heard him because the place is so loud and then he kind of just let it play itself out and then the Chiefs happened to not convert and then they got together and said, “Do it again.” So, obviously we’ll never know what happens if they convert that first down if they say, “Let’s do it again.” So, just a little hairy there. Obviously, the last play that Mahomes was thrown out of bounds, that was the right call. You call that regardless of that was like for sure the game and how early in the game that was the right call. That poor guy’s got to live with that now for the rest of his life. So, that’s all said and done. Now, we fast forward to Sunday’s game and before I even get into it, we’re around kids of all ages and obviously coaches that are kind of around our age, but just top to bottom. I feel like nobody cares about this game. Like, at least in the sense of Super Bowl parties or like what they’re doing, everyone’s just kind of like, “Yeah, we’re just gonna, you know, be home. We’ll throw it on. We’ll watch Rihanna and that’s it.” Like, no one is really, I feel like, in years past, people are more into it and ramped up for it and I feel like no one really cares this year.

Matt – Yeah, I don’t disagree with you, actually, which is crazy to me because I feel like this is one of those years that is actually kind of rare because it’s one game to get to the next round, like single elimination, you’re out. It’s the two best teams in the NFL. These are the two best teams throughout the entire year. They looked like it throughout the playoffs. They got it done. I feel like this game is going to be amazing. Like, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be. So, I don’t know. Yeah, you’re kind of right, though. There is… It doesn’t really have that same pizzazz that it’s had in recent years, yeah.

Joe – Like, we even waited until right… We’re 48 hours away from Super Bowl Sunday, right? We recorded this last week. We could have been like, “Okay, like, we’re still a ways away,” as it gets closer. People kind of get more into it. We’re two days away, and just, you know, everyone says, “Who are you picking? Who’s picking this team? I like this team,” and that’s it. And there’s plenty to talk about, like I said. Two best teams, two crazy offenses, two pretty good defenses. The two quarterbacks were one and two in the MVP voting that went to Mahomes last night, right? The Kelce Brothers, you have two brothers playing on two ends of the ball. I know one is, you know, a center versus a star tight end, but still. A lot going on, and just, to me, not the same kind of pizzazz if that’s even the word.

BVSA Sports Show: Episode 16

Anthony – We are back with episode 16 of the BVSA sports show. Thank you guys so much for tuning in again. This week, like Joe and I talked about last week, we are switching it up a little bit. We are excited to welcome back Virg to the show and welcome Nic Civale for the first time. And again, welcome back Frank Ramppen, managing partner at the facility here. So we are really excited to talk today. We talk about things all the time that we’d love to have a camera on us 24/7 in here because we’re in here all day long when kids are at school. It’s tough, and you know, we’re getting business stuff done, but we can’t not talk about things that come up. We’re excited to finally bring on Nick, who’s a doctor of physical therapy. Trying to up the game here a little bit. And little teaser, you’re here, we will be working Bobby Valentine into some of these segments coming forward. So more on that, stay tuned. So, um, today we again, we have Nic Civale, and we’re talking, going back to what we’re talking about last week about Mohegan Sun. One of my favorite guys there was Chris Bojack from Yale talking pitching, and it kind of goes into the first topic that we want to get into here is starting the program early, you know, and getting going. So where are you at on that and when guys should be throwing and when they shouldn’t be throwing and how to get your program going there.

Nic – Yeah, it’s something that people take a look at Major League players and they say, “That’s not me. I’m only 12. I don’t need to start that early.” Major League guys start throwing in December/January to get ready for the season. And that’s really when I think people should be starting, no matter what age you are. Because it doesn’t matter if you’re throwing 98, it matters what kind of effort you’re putting into it. So if you’re trying to put in 100% effort by March 15th when your middle school or high school season starts, you need to ramp up to that. And it’s the same exact process as a major leaguer or a professional athlete. So I think a lot of times people just see young kids throwing at a lighter pace and they say, “Oh, they’ll warm up for a couple of weeks, they’ll be fine.” But there’s a lot of changes the body has to go through to get ready for the season. So one of the main points I try to drive across is that you need to start throwing early so you’re not trying to go 0 to 60 in a couple of weeks.

And there’s a lot of different topics of conversation that go off of that, whether it’s how your muscles respond to it, mentally, are you ready for the season, and just building some muscle memory.

Frank – So what kind of a throwing program should young players be on at that point, like 10 to 12 years old? I agree, everybody should be starting early. They should build up. I mean, like I was in Japan, those guys never stopped throwing from the time they’re little kids. When does a little leaguer 10 to 12 or 8 to 12 start throwing and what do they do?

Nic – If I’m running a team and I’m instructing kids, right, about after Christmas time, that Christmas to New Year’s break is the perfect time to just get the arms starting loosening up. And it doesn’t even have to be getting out on a field. It could be throwing into a net, into a wall, into a fence. And really those first few weeks are very light tossing. And the problem that people have with starting that is it’s extremely boring. No one even wants to do it. But it’s extremely important to building that up. And it’s the same way a runner would prepare for a marathon. They’d start at half a mile, one mile and build up. So it’s very light throwing. A lot of it’s stationary, working on rotation, working on your arm slot, making sure you don’t go into the season realizing, “Oh, I didn’t know my back was tight until two weeks before the season.” Now you’re gonna find that stuff out early. You go see a PT for a couple of days, you get it figured out before it’s a problem. And that gives you an idea of what to expect in the coming two months.

Virg – How do you feel about people never taking time off?

Nic – That’s a great question. I do think there is a need for time off. So fall seasons, it depends on what other sports you’re playing. So I still fully encourage up to the age of maybe junior year in high school for kids to be playing multiple sports, just the wear and tear on the body, the asymmetries you create of doing the same thing year long. It’s not just baseball. It’s any sport. That is something that causes you to start breaking down at 22 instead of 32 or even into college. You see that with a lot of kids, a lot of guys who come from the south who are playing 50 high school games, 50 summer games, they’re up to almost as many games as major leaguers. They’re guys who scouts even look at and say, “Hey, we might not want to sign this guy into his late 30s.” He just went through a whole season when he was 14 all the way up till now. So you have to break it up. And as far as taking a break from fall ball, when does that usually end? In October.

Frank – End of October, early November.

Nic – I’m probably not touching a ball between then and right before Christmas.

Virg – Even though you could potentially just look at it as a build-up of conditioning. Bryce Harper is a perfect example. Yeah, he just blew out his arm and had Tommy John, right? Now, 30-year-old season coming up or 31-year-old season. Yeah, but in reality, his body has been conditioned since he was a kid to withstand a full season.

Nic – And so his mileage starts at probably age 13, where he’s throwing 90-something in middle school or whatever it was. And it will take a toll. You see all the benefits of it, but not every person out there is going to be Bryce Harper and sign that nine million dollars and get all the best trainers in the world and get paid to recover. But to your point, I do think it’s very important for you to do something baseball-related. I’m not saying just don’t do anything baseball at all or stop working out. It’s just specifically for throwing. I think that’s when you need to take a break and give your arm a little bit of a rest.

Virg – And even if it’s not a normal arm slot. You’re playing around, you’re having fun, you’re messing around.

Nic – Oh, yeah, that’s fine. Like if you’re just throwing a football with friends. It’s more like formally throwing a bullpen. That’s got to be there’s got to be some time off for that. But yeah, I’m not saying don’t play. Be in a sling for three months. Totally do that stuff. Yeah. And that’s exactly that multi-sport mentality too. Like go play football with your friends. Go swimming. Use your arm in other ways. Just don’t keep throwing bullpen until January and then start it all up again.

Anthony – Yeah. Essentially, that kind of goes back to thinking about Bojack. And he’s of that mindset. They just throw. They always throw. Same thing. I think they were going back to their throwing off the mound during those October sessions. But he definitely wanted them throwing three or four days a week along with their lifting and whatnot. And one thing that he said that we heard a lot, actually, before he went to the event was, “It comes pitching a lot of it’s a pain based.” Yeah. Like, throwing, and it’s all, like you said, there’s different perspectives. What are some things we can do to start measuring the body so that the body can tell us, “Oh, he’s ready to do this. He’s not ready to do this.” Is there anything that you’re seeing there, like, you know, just quick, simple movements that they could do so that kids know, “Yeah, we can actually put a kid run, run a kid through something.” And they know, “I’m prepared to go today.”

Nic – Yeah. The shorter answer is, go through every joint in the body and say, “How does this compare to what that joint is supposed to look like?” And that’s something we’re trying to do with our screens and that’s sort of what a physical therapy evaluation would entail. And I even have a few kids now who come in and they don’t have any pain, but they know by the end of the season, they’re starting to wear down. So they say, “What can I do?” And you go and you look at the ankles, the knees, the hips. A lot of times, it’s the hips where one side of rotation is tighter than the other. And it’s because it’s a very asymmetrical, unilateral sport. You’re always rotating one way, unless you’re a switch hitter. That affects your momentum from the feet all the way up through the arm slot. So if you have a limitation at the hip, it’s like any other machine, the other parts and the other joints are going to have to make up for that. So one of the biggest things we can do is just measure all these different joints and say, “You are limited here, you’re fine there, you’re fine there, let’s focus on this.” So with a good amount of my off-season baseball guys, Gio included, it’s not actually a spot that’s bothering them, it’s somewhere else that’s affecting their arm slot or why they’re not getting velocity. And that’s as simple as you talk to a physical therapist or you talk to a really good personal trainer and they notice that, “Say, hey, stretch out your pecs more or stretch out your lateral hip muscles.” And problem solved instead of trying to bear through it and get some kind of injury in mid-May.

Virg – So how do you teach kids, or how have you done in your experience, teach kids how to know the difference between soreness and pain or injury?

Nic – That’s a very tough one because honestly, they’re going to lie to you in a lot of cases. It’s a young kid who wants to play and they’re going to say, “No, it’s fine. It’s just a little sore.” And I know that because I did it myself and I know all my teammates who did it too. I think the conversation about what an injury is has to take place. If you go to somebody because you’re sore, you can’t have the feeling like you’re going to lose your spot on the team or you’re going to get pushed to the end of the bench. And that’s something that starts with the coaching and maybe it’s something that everyone feels like it’s kind of understood, but it probably needs to be vocalized more.

BVSA Sports Show: Episode 15

BVSA Sports Show: Episode 15

Joe – So let’s finally get into the two games this Sunday. First game, San Fran vs. Philly. I think both games we differ. I personally have San Fran and Cincinnati. I have two road teams, you have two home teams, Philly and Kansas City.

Matt – Yeah, so those are my original picks right when we talked about who we thought was going to get to the Super Bowl. It was Eagles-Chiefs. If we start with that game because that’s the first game, obviously, I still think the Eagles have even more talent than the Niners. Obviously, the Niners have been just on a roll currently, but I also feel like the Eagles showed last week they’re not like they’re still hot in my opinion. They had a couple of losses, right? Hurts wasn’t healthy. He looked just fine to me in that game, and that team looked like they didn’t miss a beat. So I still have the Eagles winning that game. I think that, I mean, they’re at home, right? Yep. So, yeah, they got the atmosphere. That team’s just, I don’t know, it’s to me, they’re unstoppable in my opinion.

Joe – I’d love to disagree with you. I’m sticking to my original picks also, San Fran against the winner of Buffalo-Cincinnati, and we’re still rocking with that. I’m not changing anything. I did not like how Brock Purdy played last week, particularly in the first half, how he started. He seemed a little, whatever, nervous jitters, the yips, whatever you want to call it. He looked a little bit more like a third-string quarterback and the last pick in the draft for a reason. He’s still a rookie. I, amongst other people, tend to forget that because he’s 7-0 as a starter. Yeah, he just looks so poised all the time. The team hasn’t lost in three months. They’ve won 12 in a row. I’m hoping that the talent around him at wide receiver and tight end and in the backfield, and also on the sideline and Kyle Shanahan, could beat that Eagles team. Yes, they did better against the Giants than I thought, but they were also on cruise control from the second quarter, so Jalen looked good. He looked healthy. That’s the biggest thing. The team was clicking on all cylinders, but they played a Giants team that isn’t built to win from behind. They go down two touchdowns very the way they play. They’re not made for that. But regardless, they looked awesome. They’re hot. They’re great. They’re going to be tough. I’m going to stick with what I got and Brock Purdy and that Niners team. What I don’t like also is I think, like, three big names sat out practice yesterday. I think Deebo, McCaffrey, and Mitchell. I mean, probably just precautionary.

Matt – Yeah, but yeah, I got you.

Joe – So, I think everything’s falling into place for Philly. I think we’re in for two awesome games this weekend. Obviously, I think the second one has a little bit of the edge in terms of the history and the Bengals and the Chiefs and everything, and Burrow, but it’ll be interesting. We both got this. This is good, our different sides of the coin. So, we’re rocking Philly, rocking San Fran. The last game, Cincy and Kansas City. Anthony alluded to it playing at Burrowhead, which I don’t think I love, as a guy who wants the Bengals back in the Bengals. There’s a level of confidence, and then it’s like cockiness and arrogance so much. I don’t love it. I do like backing the team that’s going up against a team whose starting quarterback is basically playing on one leg. I mean, it is Pat Mahomes. If anybody can do it, it’s him. He said he came back to practice and he felt better than he thought he would. So, I’m sure he’s going to be just fine. But regardless of his health, I still like this Bengals team. They’re just on a mission. Nothing bothers Joe Burrow. When he came out of LSU, I did not like him at all. I thought he was arrogant smoking his cigar in the locker room after a win. I just thought he was very, very arrogant. I mean, rightfully so, but I didn’t love him. These last couple of weeks, I guess after the game against the Bills that got postponed, I kind of found a new love and respect for the guy. And then he just does it. Doesn’t matter to him. Like the snow, the atmosphere going into Buffalo, going into Kansas City, you’re doing good. He’s the closest thing to being someone who has Pat Mahomes’ numbers. 3-0 against them. I think it’s going to be 4-0. I think this team is going to lift the Lombardi Trophy when it’s all said and done.

Matt – Yeah, I mean, it’s hard to argue that. I was obviously big on the Chiefs just because of Mahomes and that high ankle sprain. It’s not great, obviously, because he likes to move around. He’s not a mobile quarterback, but that’s how he makes the plays is when he’s scrambling out of the pocket and just finding ways to get the ball down the field. So it’s so funny because now I’ve been seeing all over the internet, right? There’s like five-second videos of him walking off this thing. He’s like, ‘Oh, he’s not limping. He looks great.’ And he’s jogging on the field. ‘Oh, I don’t see a limp.’ Yeah, it’s funny. So I’m sure it’s still going to bother him. So I’m sure there’s still going to be, like, after that first hit, he’s going to feel it a little bit. But I’m sure they’re going to have him ready. He’s going to be taped up. I’m sure he’s going to have everything to get him ready. But yeah, I’m still going to obviously… I’m going to stick with my guns. We’re going to go with Mahomes. So I think he’ll find a way, and it’s going to be one of those flu games, like with the high ankle sprain. It’s going to be great. Now, I’m thinking, like, if they even make the Super Bowl, I might feel like Philly might win that game. But I’m still going to stick with the Chiefs and go all the way to the end with Mahomes. I think that game’s still going to be awesome, even if they’re hobbled, just because I don’t know. There’s something about the Chiefs. Their defense is never great. Like, their secondary really is not very good. But for some reason, in the playoffs, it’s like they flip a switch. Chris Jones on the D-line’s just making plays all the time. They find a way to get turnovers. It’s crazy how different they look. I think that game is going to be close. That might be like a field goal game. I could see, like, an OT, and then it’s great. Now they have the new rule, right, where both teams get a chance, no matter what. So it’s not like that Bills game last year. Yeah, I’m going to stick with my guns. We’re going to go Mahomes. So I think he’ll find a way. And it’s going to be one of those flu games, like with the high ankle sprain. It’s going to be great.

Joe – So the last two games, Bengals-Chiefs. Bengals have won 27-24. Yeah, so I’m going to stick with that exact prediction. Third time. I’m going to go Bengals 27-24. And I’m going to go Niners. I think that’s going to be defense-heavy, run game. I’m going to go, like, 24-20 Niners.

Matt – Okay. So I’ll go for that NFC game. I’ll go Eagles. I’m going to go 31-24. I think they’re going to score. I think they’re going to find a way. I think they have everything. Run game, pass game. Hurts running is just so hard to stop. And then for that Chiefs game, yeah, I’ll probably go Chiefs 30-27. I think he’ll be able to score. Thing about that Bengals team, though, it’s even crazier is their defense is even better than it was last year. So I don’t know. It’s going to be tough. That’s going to be a tough one. I think you’re going to be great games, though.

Joe – Definitely two best games of the year. And so championship games, Super Bowl on the line, comment below your winners, predictions, Super Bowl matchups, and we’ll be back next week talking that Super Bowl matchup.

BVSA Sports Show: Episode 14

Joe – Let’s start right from the top. Game one this past week, San Francisco and Seattle. What I thought was probably going to be the real dud of the weekend. Seattle went into halftime, I’m pretty sure up a point before San Francisco pulled away. And you can please share how you feel about San Francisco, the game, whatever it is. But nothing has changed on my end that San Francisco and Brock Purdy are going… There’s just too much firepower there. They’re still my representation of the NFC in the Super Bowl a couple of weeks away.

Matt – Yeah, that team… I mean, so I talked about this a while ago when we were talking about… We talked about Garoppolo going down and like how is Purdy gonna do? He did well in the regular season. He looked great, and obviously, we’re just like, “Yeah, I mean, you got Shanahan, you got all those players.” But now that he’s doing that in the playoffs against a Seahawks team that their defense isn’t bad. Like, that’s a solid team. They got some rookies. Obviously, they’re young. They’re still learning, but that’s not an easy team to just do well against. And they had… What, he had like 300 yards, three touchdowns, something like that? Yeah, so… I mean, he’s hot right now. Everything’s clicking for that team. In the second half, the defense showed up more for them than more so than the first half. And I think that’s the biggest thing for them is that secondary not having so much pressure on them if their pass rush is doing well. I think they’ll be in a good spot. I think they’re… Yeah, I think they’re definitely one of the favorites to make it.

Joe – Absolutely. I know you have made a little bit of a different opinion with the Philadelphia Eagles team that we’ll definitely get into when we talk about that matchup against the Giants this weekend in terms of who’s making it to the Super Bowl out of the NFC on your end. But this, I find very few teams that can match up with their star power offensively and defensively, and then mix in the great head coaching, especially on that weak NFC side. There are obviously a couple of teams in the AFC that will give them a fight, and you know, I assume we will get there. But just a slow start out of the gate, a little bit, maybe a little bit of a scare, but second half, they turned it on real quick. There were no worries. Can’t say the same about Buffalo and their matchup with Miami, but that was Sunday. Let’s stay on Saturday, and that night game, Jaguars-Chargers, easily the game of the weekend. Didn’t start out that way. Chargers go up 27-0. The game is over. People probably turning it off, looking elsewhere, going on with their Saturday night. And then all of a sudden, Jaguars get a touchdown, right before halftime, 27-7. You think, “Okay, no problem.” And they just never went away. They chipped and chipped, and all of a sudden, they’re 10 points back. And they score a touchdown, and now it’s 30-26, five and a half minutes to go. They go to kick the extra point, and Joey Bosa pulls a little episode. And whether rightfully so or not, I mean, the flag that he was arguing was clear as day. It should have been a call. He kind of loses his cool, and that penalty, they take the extra point off the board because the Jaguars elect to go for two, which is still a crazy call, in my opinion. I don’t know how you do that, going from the one versus the two, right? They get it. Now they’re down two. The kid game-winning field goal, game over. I think it was the third biggest playoff comeback in history. So my hat’s off to Doug Pederson for a gutsy, gutsy call. I don’t care the situation, wherever it was. You don’t go for two in that spot, in my opinion. But it worked. That’s why he’s coaching, and we’re not. He gets it. They get the ball back. They march down. Once they got the ball back, you knew, like, plenty of time, Trevor Lawrence, it’s gonna happen.

Matt – They just… Yeah, they were flowing well.

Joe – Kick the game-winning field goal. So I have two thoughts on this. Chargers, number one, you have to blow this team up now. You have to. Your coach cannot stay there. Staley, and I blanked on his name, Brandon Staley. I think he needs to go. Your offensive coordinator might have to go too, because your defense got you five turnovers in that game. You had five turnovers to none, and you lost that game.

Matt – Yeah, so the funny thing is, I’m pretty sure they already talked about Staley, and they said that he’s coming back for another year. Makes no sense. I think that they assume that it’s not really his fault. It’s like a team thing, and… It’s like… I don’t know. They got complacent with where they were. Yeah. But… No, I think the… Honestly, I think the biggest play in that game for the Jags was when Pederson had the fourth down, and everyone’s assuming QB sneak, right? They did it at the one-yard line. He jumps over the line. He’s 6’6″, right? Yep. They… They put three backs in the backfield, lined up… I’ve never seen this play call in my life, and they just assumed they’re going up the middle. They do a little trick play, I guess, a little handoff to the outside. Etienne gets, like, 20 yards. That’s just… That blows up the game. That’s pretty much it. So, um… I think he has the experience. Obviously, won with the Eagles, of that team, with Nick Foles, like, amazing. Like, it’s just insane. So, that team is hot right now. Like, if, honestly, if I’m the Chiefs going into this weekend, you’ve got to… Like, you cannot get complacent. And obviously, I don’t think Andy Reid will. He’s got plenty of experience. Mahomes does as well, with so little years, you know. But I think that game could be a lot closer than people think.

Joe – No, absolutely. And I’ve totally forgotten about that play. And that same kind of idea of fourth and short, you think QB sneak. Now that all these teams are kind of bringing someone behind the quarterback and pushing them forward, it’s working 95 – 100% of the time, right? You call that counter. Now you’re moving east and west, which they tell you never to do. So they run that play, and you got what? 15, 20 yards? They made it look effortless. Easy, easy. That’s the crazy part with the Jaguars. And it goes all in on Trevor Lawrence. I just heard the stat yesterday or this morning, whoever was the guy, has never lost a football game on Saturday. I saw that, but he has like 54 high school games under his belt where he’s 52 and 2. The two losses both came on a Friday and two college losses. One Monday night championship game against Georgia, one on a Friday night against Ohio State. The dude has never lost on a Saturday. But with over 100 games played, it’s an absolutely insane stat. And now you’re going on Saturday night against… Look, I had the Chiefs pulled up for me and you know, talking about the Jaguars, I’m all in on this team. I love this team. I don’t see a situation, a scenario, like all the things have to go right for them and all the things have to go wrong for Kansas City on Saturday. And I think Kansas City still finds a way to win.

Matt – That’s what they do.

BVSA Sports Show: Episode 13

BVSA Sports Show: Episode 13

BVSA Sports Show: Episode 13

Joe – With that said, let’s finally get to the main event. Let’s get to the NFL, let’s get into the games. Let’s start. It’s only right to start with the Buffalo Bills, and it’s only right to continue to spread the great news about Damar Hamlin. A couple of weeks removed now from that game, he was released from Cincinnati, the Cincinnati hospital. Not sure of the exact term but he was in the Cincinnati hospital, he went home, got tests with Buffalo medical staff at a hospital. I believe he’s been released from there as well, so I think he’s home, he’s good, thank God. And we can now hone in on the games this weekend, and I would love to kind of go off of that with the Bills and the Bengals. Let’s just fast forward to next week’s Bills-Bengals game, because the Bills are playing the Dolphins at home, no Tua, right? Just worked out that they’re going to play the third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson, who has shown absolutely nothing. And then you have the Bengals playing Baltimore, probably without Lamar Jackson, still not practicing.

Virg – Just beat them this past week.

Joe – Just beat them in the exact same situation. I think JK Dobbins is going to play or Gus Edwards, one of them or both of them, whatever one of the running backs who sat out last week in preparation for this game is the big difference, which he will help. But there’s no scenario where Skylar Thompson and the Dolphins upset the Bills, and there’s no scenario where Tyler Huntley or Anthony Brown, for that matter, upset the Bengals, which means those two teams will automatically play each other next week, regardless of what happens in the other game. Because the Chiefs are the one, Bills are two, Bengals are three, two will play three, and we will get the game that it’s… I don’t say it in a negative way, but we were robbed of that game under very rightfully so circumstances, but we were robbed. It was supposed to be the game of the year that we did not get to see. We will get next weekend in Buffalo instead of Cincinnati.

Virg – Except if Any Given Sunday comes true, and Baltimore and Miami just come out of nowhere.

Joe – I don’t see it.

Virg – I completely agree with you, but could you imagine that we wake up Monday morning and we’re looking squarely at Baltimore having advanced and Miami having advanced?

Joe – There is absolutely no way. And the bigger question is, who do the Chiefs play? And then we could fast forward again to the AFC Championship game, and you can give me Chiefs against the winner of that Bills-Bengals game. But without getting ahead of ourselves, the one game that does matter in my opinion in the AFC this weekend, Jags and Chargers. You answer first, and then I’ll go into that game a little bit, but who wins that game?

Virg – I think the Chargers. I think Justin Herbert gets to go on full display of everything that he’s been criticized all year for by every person across ESPN, on Twitter, on Tik Tok, whatever it is. Everybody loves to go after Justin Herbert like he’s the problem, that he hasn’t done enough winning, that he hasn’t done enough to prove himself. I get their record is very Jeff Fisher-esque. It’s very 500 over someone that we’ve flaunted over since he came into the league, but his passing yards have been amazing. He’s been hit with the injury bug this year. His offensive line was hit with the injury bug. His receiving core was hit with the injury bug. Every aspect of his team has dealt with adversity, not just this year, all three of his years, but specifically this year. And squarely looking at it, we’re looking at as healthy of a Chargers roster as we’ve had all season. And towards the stretch of the season, when they were getting healthier, he was only getting better. Having Keenan Allen, having Mike Williams out there, having Carter and having Palmer, both having now experience, you have a real receiving core to throw to. You have Ekeler in the backfield that’s just a game-changer across the board. So the fact that he wasn’t named to the Pro Bowl team or the All-Pro, whatever, joke anyway, like, is mind-boggling because every one of his stats just jumps off the page ahead of everyone else. So looking at that offense and then looking at how scary that defense can be with JC Jackson, Khalil Mack, Joey Bosa as their drafted guy, who I named third out of all of that. But, that is a scary team that is not going to like that the Jags already beat them once this season. I’m pretty sure in Jacksonville too, smoked them.

Joe – No, opposite, Jacksonville smoked the Chargers in LA 38 to 10. I was with you thinking the same thing, and then we talked to Taylor yesterday, we looked it up, and it was like, well that was a mistake. But Jacksonville smoked them in LA 38-10, but it was like… it was week two, but yes.

Virg – But either way, a loss is a loss, and that’s not going to sit well with any of the Chargers to let that happen. Yeah, and they’re going to go in with a different energy, different level, where I think… I think you asked yesterday about highest-scoring, all that. I think that has the chance to be the highest-scoring game of the weekend, only because I think the explosiveness of what the Jaguars offense has turned into, that if Etienne gets used right, if Lawrence can move the ball, if the receivers get open, like, it’s a great defense on the other side, but it’s got its holes. You might be looking at a score in the high 40s, 50s, even into the 60s if both teams have some 34 to 27 type score. Yeah, you’re looking at… you’re looking probably one of the more fun games to watch as far as back and forth.

Joe – I think this will be the best game of the weekend, um, definitely the best game of the AFC, just given what we just talked about with backups and third-string quarterbacks. Here’s what scares me about this game. Chargers, Mike Williams, got hurt last week. I think he’s going to play, but I don’t know if it’ll be 100%. I hope I’m not contradicting myself when we talked a couple of weeks ago about the Jaguars, and I was talking about how, like, everyone’s talking about the Lions and their run, no one’s talking about Jacksonville, and it looked like Trevor Lawrence and Etienne and everybody else, they figured it out. Doug Peterson is a Super Bowl-winning coach. They’re about to go be a scary team in the playoffs. They can win this game against the Chargers, but last week they basically played a playoff game at home against the Titans. Granted, third-string quarterback, and it took a controversial incomplete pass/fumble from that third-string quarterback, Joshua Dobbs, for the defense to pick up and return for a touchdown as the only reason why they’re playing in this game and not Tennessee. Tennessee’s defense is far better than the Chargers. I’ll give them that. I don’t see Jacksonville putting up the points that you see them putting up. I don’t see the Chargers putting up the points that you see putting up. I think this is a low-scoring, defensive battle, which is sad to say that I just called it the most exciting game of the weekend, but I just… granted everything else, yeah, it’s exciting in that and everything else we’re going off. I’m looking at right now, it’s just gross. I think the Chargers win 23-13.

Virg – I’ll say this based on what you just said, I might be going on a bit of a limb because Brady is Brady, but the Jags remind me of what the Bucs are in the NFC, at least for this first home game and what they might do if they win it. Like, Jacksonville is that scary underdog team that nobody’s thinking about. Like, obviously, there’s a different aura with the Bucs and Brady, but they’re in the same general situation. And as I was reminded by one of my friends last night talking about the Chargers and, like, what action to take on them, they find a way to screw you either way. You could bet them to win, you could bet them to lose, you could do whatever across any part of that game. It’s just they’re the Chargers, they’ll find a way to mess with you. Yeah, so like, Jags might be the guys for this game, and then it makes it kind of a little more interesting in the AFC if there’s a clear way for them to get there and upset the Chiefs. That’s the other problem. The winner of this game is going to play the Chiefs most likely, right? I think both of them have next to no chance of beating the Chiefs.

BVSA Sports Show: Episode 12

BVSA Sports Show: Episode 12

BVSA Sports Show: Episode 12

Joe – Two games Saturday rest of the games are on Sunday. The whole NFC East plays on Sunday. Dallas is at Washington. The Giants are at the Eagles. All four teams are in very different places right now. Commanders eliminated, not even going to bother with them. But Sam Howell, rookie Sam Howell, starting, I think is pretty cool to see what they got. They’re playing a Cowboys team that I think is in the most interesting position out of the four teams right now. If we have it correctly, the Cowboys have the one, two, and five seeds of the three spots they can land in. Yeah, so I think it’s as simple as the Eagles win, they’re the one seed, putting the Cowboys at five, done deal. If the Eagles lose, which I personally don’t see happening, playing at home against a Giants team that is locked in at the sixth seed, probably going to rest all of their starters.

Taylor: I assume they might play a little bit just to continue with reps and feeling, you know, because they’ve been playing pretty good football. But I don’t see their seed not changing at all. I don’t see them risking any big injuries or anything like that.

Joe – You never know, potentially got Tyrod Taylor going up against Gardner Minshew. I don’t know what the latest is on Jalen Hurts.

Taylor – He was limited Wednesday. He’s starting to practice. They haven’t really made a decision yet. But with the seeding on the line, I can’t see him not playing if he’s good to go.

Joe – Yeah, I think the Eagles is a no-brainer. Whoever’s healthy needs to play and includes Jalen Hurts. Lock up the one seed, get a bye, get healthy, whatever it is. The Cowboys are so interesting to me because they need to win. They need the Eagles to lose and they need the 49ers to lose at home against an Arizona Cardinals team on their fourth quarterback. So to me, risk those guys going out there. Someone gets banged up, probably not getting the one seed. Obviously, you have a better chance at the two seed, which is huge. Winning the division versus getting a wild card. But looking at it just for next week alone, I know it’s Tom Brady. We talked about it a little bit last week, the idea of the Cowboys getting the five and going to Tampa versus potentially getting the two seed and playing a red-hot Aaron Rodgers. And I get it to be a home game, but to me, I don’t see any benefit of the Cowboys throwing their starters out there because too many pieces need to fall to get the one seed, which to me seems near impossible.

Joey – Like you said, also, their idea of behind throwing everybody out there, yes, they have potential to get the one seed, but then again, if you’re playing Brady in the playoffs, we all know he’s spectacularly well-known. He’s arguably the GOAT, maybe not arguably, but I think it’s just smarter for them to rest everybody because of all the scenarios that need to happen for them to win to get the one seed. And then also, we also don’t know what time the games are. So like, if the Eagles games and the Niners games are before Dallas, let’s say the Eagles win, why would Dallas play everybody?

Joe – I’m telling you, right? The Eagles play at 4:00, Cowboys play at 4:00, Niners play at 4:00.

Joey – Okay, so I feel like you kind of have to take the chance.

Taylor – I mean, I think I have a little different mindset from both you guys on that. I think the Cowboys should play their guys. I mean, I think the difference in seeding can be huge. The home game versus an away game in Tampa, even though they’re not playing well, it’s Brady. I think the seeding is huge. And I think it’s kind of a game where you start your guys, you go out there, and if you know the game’s in hand, then you can kind of rest some guys. But I think personally, I think you’ve got to play your guys because in the NFL, it’s so hard to win. And if you can get a higher seed and potentially play at home for the first round, I think that’s huge. And I think if you rest your guys, all these other things need to happen. But if you can play well and then again, see how the game goes, if the game’s out of hand, then you can kind of make a choice. But if there’s that seeding and that home game, I think that’s huge. And you know, once you get in the playoffs, you don’t know. Anything can happen. And I think being at home is such a huge thing. And then versus playing away against Brady, you know, where anything could happen. I think you’ve got to play your guys. I’m kind of, I’ve always been in that mindset unless, you know, done deal, locked up the one seed weeks ago, maybe that’s a little different. But I think you’ve got to play your guys, see how the game goes, and kind of manage it from there.

Joey – Well, here’s the thing too. Like, everybody kind of knows that home games are very important. You know, it was like, they historically win at home more often than they do on the road.

Taylor – You said it.

Joey – Now you’re gonna bring it up.

Taylor – No, I don’t want to hurt your feelings.

Joey – No, listen. Like, that’s, like, I mean, there are many Cowboys fans out there who do not accept that. But, like, that’s some of the Cowboys. Home games are huge. And not only that, but like, you have the chance to either play, what is it? It’s between, it’ll be between the Buccaneers and the Eagles if they, if they get the five, and then either you play Jalen Hurts or Tom Brady at home. Like, that’s, I mean, Tom Brady’s 9-0 against the Cowboys.

Taylor – Or did you say potentially the Packers? Who would they play?

Joe – So, if the Packers get the seven, which they, I think, if they win, they’re in. They get the two seed. Which, like, the Cowboys are much more likely to get the two than the one, yeah. I mean, and we’re talking one week, right? If the Cowboys have the aspirations, like every team, but particularly the Cowboys, who have their recent past in the playoffs, right? They’re, it’s Super Bowl or nothing for Jerry and that crew. So, for one week, yeah, forget the matchup of if it’s a road game against the Bucs or a home game against the Packers. Getting the two versus getting the five, the path to the Super Bowl, it adds a couple of home games.

Taylor – At the end of the day, we can talk about this, and like, I’m sure you guys would agree, but we could talk about this as much as we want. You still gotta win once you get in there. It’s just, you know, now we’re in it.

Joe: I would love to. You got about 5 minutes. We’re going to start with the biggest section, the biggest part of our show today: Fantasy Football Championship is here. Is it Matt and Taylor… you guys are playing in the final together?

Taylor: I’ll be there.

Joe: You’ll be there, and Matt you’re gonna be there?

Matt: Yeah I bought my ticket already, I’m gonna be watching.

Joe: Five losses in a row. You did not win a game since being on the show. The real impressive thing is you were 9-1 and lost four in a row and still got the one seed. Terrible, that is how dominant you were. Where did it go wrong?

Matt: Well, so you know, like I said go back to a clip on that first episode I was on where I said knock on wood I haven’t had any injuries two weeks in a row. One I lost to him, Eagles had the best rushing game of their entire existence. Etienne got hurt one week, lost that week too. Then got outscored a couple of times. Get to the playoffs, decide to go crazy, start the Broncos defense against the Rams. Baker Mayfield stinks, you know, it’s going to be great. Oh no, we’re going to put up 50 plus on them and they’re going to get negative points then I’m going to lose by 1.2 to Taylor.

Taylor: Sometimes it just happens, but you know I think my guys are really prepared this week and they just really wanted it a little bit more. You know one point more than you.

Matt: You’re lucky that you were the one that beat me and it wasn’t Mike because if it was Mike it would have been very different. I would have been reacting a little differently.

Taylor: I like my odds in the championship. I don’t want to saying anything but it’s looking good.

Frankie: You’re playing Mike in the championship? How does that happen? How’d you let that happen? That’s even more embarassing than what we just talked about.

Taylor: Our quarterback matchup this week was Jared Goff and Gardner Minshew. It’s been a weird year. Started 5-1 and then lost 4 in a row. My guys just bounced back. Everyone thinks that Bills and Bengals game is going to be a shootout. However, it’s a big game right. I think the defenses are going to show up so we’ll see.

Joe: You know next week regardless you’re coming back on and Mike’s going to come back on so if you’d like to say anything to him now or you want to wait for next week wait to see some results. You seem like a really humble guy you know your way to let the thing happen first and then you talk about it.

Taylor: So I’m not gonna get into it I just like my chances. My guys are having a really good week of practice, everyone’s healthy, um I’m gonna have to start Jared Goff again he’s on a hot streak so report on Wednesday. We’ll talk about it next week, I like my chances.

Joe: Alright we’ll leave it at that. Matt, that thanks for being here, you’re gonna jump into your lesson, go Inspire the youth.

Matt: Oh yeah big third place game this week. I’m gonna score 170 this week I’m gonna beat everyone that I would have either played or am playing and then I’m gonna be annoyed. The Broncos defense is gone forever.

Joe: Do you have any thoughts on what you just showed?

Frank: That’s it. You think that announcer was going nuts…you should have seen us.

Zack: My legs started shaking. Hands and knees on the ground.

Frankie: I think that was by far the craziest thing I’ve ever seen happen at a live sport event in my life for sure. So I went from thinking that we’re blowing another 14 point lead, another double-digit lead, to we’re gonna go to overtime. To Rhamondre Stevenson is going to take this ball to the endzone. Jakobi Meyers gets it and he throws it right to Chandler Jones out of nowhere.

Zack: Keelan Cole was in to. Wasn’t on the board but they showed the replay later on and he was in. A guy recorded the dirt in the endzone after and he was clearly in.

Frank: Unfortunately, Frankie was born December 4th, 2001, a month and 15 days before the Tuck Rule game happened, so we’ve only had two 500 or winning seasons since they’ve been alive.

Zack: And our quarterback broke his leg on Christmas Eve for one of them.

Frank:  By the way going to Oakland for a Raiders game is a lot different than going to Vegas for a Raiders game. What do you think the number was? Had to be like 60/40 patriots to raiders fans. They don’t sell their tickets to the visitors in Oakland. One year in Vegas I guess they apparently do that. If that play happened in Oakland, there would have been riots and people all over the streets. So back to this, we pick up Carson Palmer, so we’re all pumped up, thinking it’s going to be a big deal. So we go to Oakland, we’re playing the Chiefs. We didn’t get to clap, we didn’t get to stand up. There were seven interceptions in the game. They threw two pick sixes, one by Bulger and then Carson Palmer came in the second, throwing four picks for seven. These guys were like shell-shocked. They’ve never been to a Raider game. We go to five more. We go to one on his 10th birthday.

Zack: The most annoying fan base of all time. The chants they do in the stadium are absurd.

Frankie: I’m 21 years old now. That was my 10th birthday. They scored 34 points unanswered to start that game, and I can recite the entire Miami Dolphins fight song right now.

Frank: After six losses of live games, I’ve seen many heartbreaking losses in our house or wherever we are, at school. We finally got a crazy fun game to root for this past weekend.

BVSA Sports Show: Episode 9

Joe: Guys are here, take it away, we can start with Sunday, Argentina vs. France. I think Argentina, the Messi story, France has the back-to-back possibility, first time ever that would happen. So feel free to take it away for Sunday’s game, Argentina and France.

Jhonny: I think Argentina. For me, I’m a fan of this game, I love this game, I’ve played this game my whole life. I think being able to see Messi lift the World Cup would be incredible. You know, but you have a few incredible challenges. I think Mbappe is an upcoming, I mean he’s been doing it the last few years, he’s already won a World Cup, he’s only 23 years old. So it’s going to be a tough game, but my prediction, Argentina 2-1.

Juan: I think Argentina too, more as a fan I want Argentina to take it and I’m from South America, so we push a little more for our side, so we gotta take it. But I think the best thing and looking at the World Cup before it started, I wanted Argentina vs. France because I think it’s the generational change of Messi being the old guard, the best of the world, and Mbappe is the new upcoming, potentially the best in the world. So it’s good to see that clash, you know, old guard and the new, who’s going to take it off? To me, it’s going to be an amazing day for the game across the entire world, I think everybody’s expecting a big game, hopefully. Hopefully, it’s a record final, so this is what kind of game you see. I heard on the radios that for something like half of the world might be watching.

Jhonny: Yeah, I would not be surprised, that would be huge. I mean, listen, whatever happens on Sunday, whether it’s Mbappe winning his second World Cup at a young age, at 23 years old, or the French coach winning the World Cup as a player and now as a manager once again.

Anthony: Has that been done before?

Jhonny: No, I don’t think so. And as for the youngest to win two world cups, I think if I recall correctly, I think Pele has that because he was very young, yeah. So you know, it’s an exciting thing for France, 100 percent. Me personally, Messi is special, man, he’s been so special for the game, his impact on the game and so many generations over the last… years that I would love for him to be one lifting it. And almost, we all know this is it, it’s the end of his career, like battling, getting to these things, and unfortunately, he has failed. You know, they’ve lost a lot of finals, they’ve lost the World Cup final twice, so Messi’s been in the finals and lost. He was in a Copa America last time, lost in the final, so they’ve got to have a trophy under the belt and hopefully that can clear them up. But listen again, this is the game for soccer and we saw a bunch of upsets in the World Cup, so you never know.

Anthony: Is Messi coming out and saying this is it, he’s done?

Juan: No, I don’t think so. I think he might push for one more.

Jhonny: No, no, I think he’s kind of a leaning towards being done. You know, his age is natural, he’s all banged up right, he’s holding his hamstring, yeah. You never know, I saw it too in the game, at all. 10 seconds later, he’s fine. He’s smart, he’s the smartest player in the world. There have been talks about the walking right, while he’s on the field, that’s finding the right moments to push his energy. So smart, these guys are phenomenal players that have done this for so long and time when they run when they don’t need to run, to chase, when they hurry, yes, you don’t know what’s coming, yeah.

Juan: There’s a great fairy tale ending though, you see Messi winning it, he’s all comfortable and then the whole argument about Ronaldo vs. Messi, Messi puts the world in his hand. I think this will probably solidify Messi at the top, he’s already at the top but he will be… where nobody is.
